Poe 4.0 should be a whole new game (of different perspective) or its game over for this one GGG

Just played Last Epoch.....

Good to hear you seem to like LE. The people at EHG surely deserve some love.

That game looks worse. I really preferred it's happy fantasy art style, but the character development was a downgrade. Which is what these games are all about. I don't think that game is a threat to them.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.
No chance in hell PoE loses to Last Epcoh.

Diablo 4 on the other hand...

Spoiler
PoE needs new content, or spin, badly. Engine and Character Models, with performance issues are a real problem.

doesn't look great IMO. i won't be trying it.

i'd rather play poe, a game that has been constantly adding and polishing content for years rather than spend money on something starting from scratch thats still in development

of course im not begging to get away from poe either. i enjoy this game, and when i don't (synthesis league) i play other things.
I looked into LE. Unproven PoE copycat right down to the crappy drones-eye camera angle. I'll stay here

Why do you think blizzard with their casual approach can deliver with D4, their name alone still carries a punch but its pretty questionable these days, thanks to Activision...mostly.

Even if it's great and packed to the brim with mechanics and content that MUST reward creativity, at best it will rival PoE, but it wont kill it.

Whatever they do, they must not follow on D3. End game being a simple endless dungeon with nothing but inflated health and damage wont be a good thing, just like rifts. If they still make the whole game with "this weapon boost this skill so much that all other weapons are useless." Sets which pretty much tells you what to play ain't gonna work a second time.

There is a lot of work to do in order to succeed.

I've put over 1k hours in this game and that's how i see it.

Level to max in 2 hours.
Get your set in 2 more hours.
Wait for the same thing to drop with 1 more main stat.

Nothing has "wow" factor, they removed the RPG element completely, and things just drop...not that heavy RNG is great, but if done right it will be the carrot on a stick, something D3 failed miserably at.

This ain't gonna work again. We will see i guess, but Blizz has done nothing in the last 10 years that promotes longtime play. It's like a pop culture, get fast money on day one, screw everything after.

D3 shows it, WoW is hemorrhaging players ever since WoTLK. Overwatch is getting pretty questionable, mostly due to balance and extreme toxicity. Hearthstone is the retard-proof version of Magic the Gathering. SC2 is the only thing that can be called a game.

You seem to have a great trust in D4 from what i've seen, but i don't know why.

If IF they do it justice and not screw it up like they usually do, because god forbid their playerbase need to use at least 1 brain cell. Then that's great. But i don't think they have much of a hardcore audience left, Esports and Mythic raiding aside, 99% of their targeted demographic aren't people that want to achieve, its people that want medals for losing.

Who knows though...in the end competition is good.

PS: Not defending PoE, it has things i literally HATE. We will see how Last Epoch will do.

On topic, OP, PoE ain't gonna die because of competition, it got to a point that only GGG can kill it. And this ain't happening anywhere soon. And especially not because of another FTP game.

You could have posted this comment in 2013 on a Diablo 2 forum about PoE and it wouldn't be wrong.

I'm going to give the game a try and also see where they're at in a few years. It definitely took PoE a few years to find its footing and now look where it is.
I started playing PoE in CB (Dec. 2012). No way to know if LE will take until version 3.0 (if it can financially make it that far) to be anywhere as good as PoE 3.0 was but it's only in alpha now so it has a long, long way to go.

But really for sure PoE 4.0 has got to have a better way to trade or I'll be looking for a new arpg. My financial investment is also over until GGG comes out with a new trade function.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.
