Slayer VS Gladiator

Looking at poe.ninja builds it looks like Slayer is far more popular of a cyclone build than gladiator. I do enjoy the gladiator bleed explosion style of play.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to why everyone is playing Slayer over Gladiator? More damage? More survivability? What is it? Thanks.

I could be wrong here, as I've never played either class. But I believe it's because of the AOE that the Slayer gets.

One. Area of effect.

Two. Splosion centered builds don't work on legion content.

Result: gladiator is for high block and massive speed in legion. Or for delving. Slayer gets more damage and more AoE, so they clear a bit better.

I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago.

Slayer will have much bigger aoe than both also negation of phys reflect is nice and also leech.
More damage and area, Champ probably does more damage still but doesn't get the area/reflect immunity.
Slayer overleech is really nice. 2h dps and range (aoe) is really nice. They buffed the Slayer ascendancy big time.

Gladiator seems really cool for a sword and board approach, which would certainly be tankier, but it won't have the same clear speed as 2h Slayer.

I personally wouldn't mind trying a sword and board Gladiator in the future, but I'm having a lot of success with my 2h sword crit Cyclone Slayer right now.

You don't need block with cyclone so its kinda redundant, circling enemies avoids almost all damage mobs do you just need area big enough to make it comfortable.
Thank you for the replies
people here saying overleech shit... literally 90% of slayers don't even use it because with the latest leech rework it isn't as good as it used to be .. the reason Slayer is popular because easy access to 8% base crit weapons double aoe and cull while glads blood splosion don't even work on league mechanic so ya but well its nothing new that every league for like the 5 leagues are basically just beta test

Very this.

Overleech is not even close to the answer on slayer anymore. Base crit, AoE, and bane of legends are the standard tree now. Slayer isn't a survivability class anymore, it's a crazy clearspeed class.

Berserker has only barely more dps but slayer's AoE makes it win for the vast majority of content.
