Totem or Summon for first ever character?

I started this game in the middle of Beastiary league. Zombie baron necro

I killed red elder in the first week. Killed Hydra and Minotaur in two weeks.

Then I killed Shaper in Incursion with GC Totems Hierophant.

I'm a casual gamer. I mean anybody can do it what I did.

I think summoner/totem char is great for starters.

Summoners are easier because you dont bother with damage calculations.

As long as PoE got this dumb requirement of stop to cast ability, skills like totems, winter orb or mirage archer will be real KING. Ppl like you will cry every time when freeze at Betrayal spawn and die like pigs.

Get into the not small and alive guild, OP.

This way you get alot of support, starting items for leveling and more..
Also both your choices are good. Just a question of taste.

Anyway starting with zombies is kinda safer. For like any char.

I would suggest you to not make a totem or summoner build. it will only prolong your learning process since it misses on important key points of the game, one of them being the substituting of the meat-shield scenario (your minions tanking majorly). Play a range character, it will force you to interact with stats and skills more.

Also do not play HC.

I'd suggest that you actually play a few characters first through the first five acts... not committing to a single play style.

People are calling totem build is for disabled people, but then you click their profile and see there Winter Orb build lol.

Totem is best for beginner and is also super cheap.
(maybe self-cast storm brand is not bad either)

I play summoner every league and I the only good build are golems and zombies.
Golems are "expensive" but super cool, zombies have bad AI and basically run around you like meat shield, however, baron zombie build is much more tankier than others).

Dont do SRS, waste of time.

trapper is also cool and easy

im gonna make a poison arrow trapper this new league to see if its still good. (probably not s.s)

necro summoner is easy and strong.

totem is a bit weaker and harder to build, but still strong, and more varied because you can build it around almost any spell you want.

also don't play hc. you're gonna die to random bullshit over and over again as a beginner, playing hardcore will just frustrate you to the point of quitting the game before even finishing the story.

Solid, fun to play, doesn't even come close to dying til around t12 maps. You will wreck anything lower.
