The 20 Alteration deal -- don't be ripped off.

While I don't personally use set values, I do exploit how people adhere to them. They're like a reliable fallback to real barter trading.

Stuff like this is exactly why you should go by poeex rates. It might look random but there is a method to the madness (on poeex the rate is 16 alterations = 1 chaos).

Do not, I repeat, do not EVER use sites like this check what something is "worth".

You have no choice since everyone else is. Face it, the Bartering is over (for orbs at least). What we have now is a standard currency system that is even more complex than the British system pre-decimalisation. :(
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

Just because some people want to get ripped off, doesnt mean everyone will. Some people use sites similar to this to get a gauge on the economy, and dont use them word for word. I am one of those people. I use currency exchange rates to see what an items is roughly valued, to make sure I'm not getting ripped bad

I might trade about 40 fusings for an exalt. Thought Poeex says its closer to 36, I dont mind losing 4 in a quick trade.

1 Exalt = 5 GCP = 15 Chaos = 30 Fusings

You got bumped, No?

For HC, yes I would have gotten ripped pretty bad, but in noobcore, which is where I traded, I got a poor deal. not HORRIBLE, but a bad deal. It was just a spur of the moment hectic deal. I needed one more exalt for a trade, and so I sold an excess of fusings to get it.

1ex = 6 GCP = ~22 Chaos = ~38 fusings

Yes it was a bad deal, but thats what I get for rushing. Also, I dont follow the 'guidelines' exactly

Saying 8 Alts = a Fusing = 1 Alch = 0.5 Chaos may well be true according to POEEX but up until a few days ago we had a retarded vendor system & changing 500 Alts into Fusings THEN selling them for Alchs THEN selling them for Chaos was a complete pain in the ass. 20:1 seemed like a good deal at the time and I sold many at that price with no regrets. I sold to one guy who was using them to craft a 6l & he was always thirsty for more.

Now that the vendor system is a bit less archaic maybe I will be less inclined to do the 1:20 ratio but in the same breath I would also say to folks that even if it's not what POEEX says is right as long as you are happy with the deal that is all that matters. For the most part I think that site does more harm than good, might as well bring back gold if everyone is gonna be so rigid to that.

In the trade channel there is almost always someone who keeps proposing to trade a chaos for 20 alteration orbs (or less frequently offering an alchemy for 10 alts). One would perhaps think that alteration is very useful and that is why it is so traded for, in reality what then happens is the scammer turns around and sells them to a vendor (there is one in act 3, perhaps elsewhere as well) in return for fusings at a rate of 8:1. Netting a nice profit if done n bulk.

Now before people jump all over me, this is not a proposal to somehow regulate trade ratios; people can trade and pay/overpay whatever they want - but then again a little extra information is not a bad thing either.

Grats on catching on so quickly.

Actually the widely accepted rate is 1 ex = 5 gcp = 15 chaos = 30 fusings. :P

as I said before, not on noobcore. If you look at the difference between HC and SC, the trade rates and exchange rates differ slightly. Not alot, but there is a difference. And I usually see people using a different exchange rate for HC and they do in SC anyway.

And I do alot of SC running for practice for my HC builds, so I see alot of exchanges.

Never mind, I ripped myself off even worse than that. I was selling a 14% Greater Multiple, had a solid offer of 7 GCP and was hoping for 8 GCP. A buyer offered me 60 Fusings, and I was too noob to realise that 60 Fusing was roughly 10 GCP and I knocked it back.

btw the rates I suggested above (1 Exalt = 30 Fusing) *is* noobcore

See? had you looked up the exchange rate, you might have taken that deal. Thats why its sometimes worth having sites like this a reference. Mind you I said REFERENCE not RULESET. Using them as a set in stone standard is just stupid, but a a general guide for pricing could be helpful.
