The 20 Alteration deal -- don't be ripped off.

In the trade channel there is almost always someone who keeps proposing to trade a chaos for 20 alteration orbs (or less frequently offering an alchemy for 10 alts). One would perhaps think that alteration is very useful and that is why it is so traded for, in reality what then happens is the scammer turns around and sells them to a vendor (there is one in act 3, perhaps elsewhere as well) in return for fusings at a rate of 8:1. Netting a nice profit if done n bulk.

Now before people jump all over me, this is not a proposal to somehow regulate trade ratios; people can trade and pay/overpay whatever they want - but then again a little extra information is not a bad thing either.

Stuff like this is exactly why you should go by poeex rates. It might look random but there is a method to the madness (on poeex the rate is 16 alterations = 1 chaos).

Is trading 5 fusing for 2 chaos being ripped off as well? You realize that everything takes time and trying to convert to chaos takes time, sometimes significant time. Besides any time dealing with the vendor although the latest patch reduced it some.

poeex is only meaningful if people are willing to trade at those rates. To give you an example trying to get 1 gcp for 3 chaos or 1 exalt for 15 chaos is a very hard thing to do.

Well, since you can buy a fusing from vendor with 8 alteration which equal to a alchemy.
Therefor 16 Alt is 2 fusing which is basically 2 alch or 1 chaos.
That's 16 alt = 1 Chaos
Buying a Chaos for 20 alt could therefor be loss, but hey.. you might be desprate or something and don't give a sh*t about it and do it anyways. =)

Just because some people want to get ripped off, doesnt mean everyone will. Some people use sites similar to this to get a gauge on the economy, and dont use them word for word. I am one of those people. I use currency exchange rates to see what an items is roughly valued, to make sure I'm not getting ripped bad

I might trade about 40 fusings for an exalt. Thought Poeex says its closer to 36, I dont mind losing 4 in a quick trade. Hell, I've done it before for 50 fusings. Other people just want the best deal possible, and those sites let them try to get the best bang for their buck.

are you on HC mode? because i trade 30 fusing for exalt and have gotten quite a few for that ratio

My ratio is from noobcore. I dont trade on HC. I do self found solo only on HC.
