Why is GGG ruining POE for all but top tier league players?

I think a lot of the OP's complaints would be fixed if the Devs simply setup a system where players could "attune" themselves to a particular master or set of masters, allowing them to exclude certain portions of legacy content that they're not built for.

We all know that not every league has been good, or even had a good premise. GGG knows this, and its part of why they do leagues in the first place. Beyond that, not all leagues are designed with even nearly the same principles. As the OP notes Incursion was made to fellate the clearspeed meta, while a great deal of Betrayal seems to be designed specifically to kill clearspeed characters.
They're simply not compatible in terms of design philosophy. A very narrow cross sections of builds might be able to deal with both, and a larger number of builds may be able to deal with both with enough investment, but OP builds that can trivialize content doesnt make that content actually compatible for builds with more reasonable power levels.

Allowing players to attune to specific masters would also solve the conundrum we're currently faced with in terms of Crafting. As it stands each map has a 20% chance to have a master in it, and there are 5 masters, next league if they bring back Cavas there will be 6.
Consider, synthesis crafting is already incredibly exclusive, I'm not going to count the ways because at this point we all know. How bad is it going to be when you only have a 1/30 chance to even see Cavas in a map?
Betrayal and veiled crafting are in a very similar situation, and that will also only get worse as time goes on unless changes are made.
Skip the content. If you cant deal with incursions - skip them. Same as betrayal, they should re-introduce the research lab lack.

However people who skip them should be excluded from the rewards as well, its only fair. If you cant be bothered to build for them/learn them you reap the consequences.

How is incursion hard? LOL. Enter incursion, kill stuff open doors, after a few enter temple kill stuff loot. OH the stress! Yeah sure this league got convoluted but previous mechanics are so simplistic and spoon-fed how could anyone think they are hardcore lol B

Better yet it's all given to you in a linear fashion as you map... beasts, incursions, breaches all in a line along your way. Delves? Follow a cart, kill stuff, loot.

The game industry is about 95% quick fix ezmode games, feel free to grab one of those.

It's little bit more complicated. Once upon the time there was such thing like "melee" in PoE. Very often these builds required gems replacing, for bosskilling (1 target) or map clearing (multi target). They worked quite well till Incursion, where bosskilling combination, although very strong, was useless against incursion crowd bombardment, while clear combination was useless against architect.

Personally, when I discovered this, I told myself "melee is definitely dead" and went completely on ranged. But not everyone is so experienced and so clever and they constantly fall into the trap of illusion that a character who is able to clear the whole map in a minute is able to win Incursion, or even Syndicate attack. Of course, they can do it on white or yellow maps, but reds? Not a chance :)

You mention a word that I didnt notice Chris Wilson use once in his talk - "Retention".

Yeah it should read more like "cyclic retention".

GGGs stated goal is to get players to come back each league to see the new mechanics and aspire to achieve what streamers are doing.

So they ARE catering more to return players, rather than new ones.
