Question about item gem slots
So I read in site that 1 handed wpns & shields can have up to 3 slots ok with this, I have some boots Lv24 with 4 slots and I thought that I can get 4 slots also on some gloves Lv16 I have but it was not possible after spent 6-7 orbs so is there any way to know for sure how many slots an item can have? I couldn't find any info about that anywhere can some1 help me to understand?

Sockets are limited by the size of the item. One-handed weapons, helmets, boots, shields, and gloves can have four sockets. Two-handed weapons and body armor can have 6 sockets. Small one-handed weapons (wands and daggers) can have three sockets.
I believe the number of sockets is also limited by the item level. Each individual item has a level based on the area where it dropped. An item needs to be above a certain level to be able to get more sockets. Forum Sheriff

" Well that's the prob there is no info on site and even u cant tell me for sure what lvl an item must be in order to have 4 slots, as I already say I have some boots Lv24 with 4 slots and I cant get 4 slots on some gloves Lv16 both items r of the same size but obviously lvl have something to do with it, u must add more info on the site because some ppl like me waste orbs trying to get this 4th slot when they r not sure if the item can have 4 slot in the first place... |

" The game is still in beta and this kind of stuff is still changing. When it is finished these kinds of resources will be available. |

That's the only info I find on site regarding gem slots:
"Items can have multiple sockets, which can be different colors. Though the early items you encounter will contain one or maybe two sockets, the number will increase throughout the game. Most armor pieces can have up to four sockets. High end body armor can reach six sockets. One-hand weapons and shields cap out at three sockets, while two-hand weapons can contain six." "Most" is not the best description u can do I believe u must indicate on top of every item the "MAX" number of slot it can get, that way ppl can move on to upgrade them and spent orbs knowing that they dont waste them on something that might be not possible. " Is this new? I thought all one handed weapons are limited to three sockets? Or did this occur only on very high level items to havent happen for me so far? invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" That's entirely not correct. 1H weapons and shield can only have a maximum of 3 sockets for balance reasons (compared to 6 sockets on 2H weapon/bows Unviable build tester.

It would be more interesting if small one handed weapon were a bit stronger and other one handed weapons + shield could get 4 slots. The player would have to make a real choice.
Moreover, it's not intuitive, I'm sure 100% of people will think they can have 4 sockets until they learn the sad truth, because they have room... On an additionnal note, it would be even better if big shields could have 6 sockets at the cost of no innate mod plus a higher movement speed malus...because they have room. ok from this view, the weapons seem very similar by their damage, only differing by attack speed, innate mod and, of course, the limitations of the skill nodes...
Could be a good variation if there were additional "options" by socket count. Suggestion: new orb which adds on socket to an item for a predefined sacrifice, like loosing the inherent mod, runspeed malus or similar things - if possible by room also above the given maximum of sockets; means up to 4 on a 3*2 one-handed weapon or on shields greater than 2*2. Sacrifice could also include an additional level requirement, especially on lower tier items. Opinions? Additional idea: if the above is not possible or desired, maybe have a "combined view" on both hands sockets? means: the summary of the sockets of mainhand and offhand items could not be greater than 6, in any possible combinations. So if I would use a claw with one socket only, I could complement it with a shield with 5... invited by timer @ 10.12.2011 -- deutsche Community: www.exiled.eu & ts.exiled.eu Last edited by Mr_Cee#0334 on Mar 30, 2012, 7:07:36 AM
