How does crit work with Incinerate?

Could i get a dev or somebody smart down here to explain to me the way Crit and incinerate work together?

I was thinking about trying a fire-based Shadow that uses incinerate and crit to deal large amounts of damage.
I believe it has zero base crit, so the only way to crit with it is to use Critical Weakness.
I wouldn't recommend crit with int based fire spells. Ignite doens't stack, so small fast hitters generally don't fare will. If you want to crit to burn things, stick with either fire trap or fireball.

Incinerate is all about the ramp-up component, so you need to either link it to some CC to allow you to stand still and channel it or put it on a spell totem and let it work at range.

Even using spell totem, you have to stand still for it to have the effect.

Yes, but with spell totem you can put it in a doorway and sit around the corner while it builds up.
That is a massive bug or epic failure of a spell if Incin on a spell totem requires the player to stand still...

Neither. They just didn't want another flame totem.

Umm... No? That would be a trivially easy way to completely bypass the disadvantage of the skill and turn it into a horrendously overpowered flame totem.
High block Tempest Shield + Incinerate?

If you put on your full plate mail, and I throw hundreds of toothpicks at you, you'll basically not feel it.

If someone catapults a whole tree at you, don't expect the Armour to prevent as much of the damage.
