Reason is:
They sold an item for a good deal, but becasue the trade engine lags behind the sellers still get whispers for an items that is already sold. Depending on the price point of the desired item you may get dozens of requests in a short amount of time. It makes sense that you either ignore all replies after the first 1-3 or just go DND "item x sold" for a few minutes, to filter out the main wave of requests. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
