How do you sustain Red Maps? What am I doing wrong?

I finally made the plunge into T11 Maps over the weekend. Survival wise, everything is going swimmingly. Map Drops? Not so much.

I've been chiseling / Alching everything (that isn't unID'd to start) to 20%, and then getting it over 80% Quant or as close as I can without ending up with a dead map, or too much currency invested in it.

I've even tried doing the same to T10, and then Vaaling to get T11.

But, I'm not replenishing maps enough to be sustainable.

I made the plunge into T11 when I crossed 30 maps. Right now, I sit in the low teens, and I've only picked up <6 T12, and 1 T13.

The past half dozen maps, I've even resorted to being truly inefficient timewise, and killing 100%, and opening every chest, carin, basket, etc... That I can find.

All that did was slow me down, with no appreciable difference with my map qty.

It feels like I'm doing something wrong. I figured Red Maps would be harder to come by, but this feels brutal.

I have everything completed up to t14, running shaped t15-16 and guardians. Just chisel, roll 80+ quant, add frags, add breach/abyss depending on map. Easy sustain. Last league i shaped 13+ and sustain wasn't as good, so might have to do with atlas bonus, 50% chance to get +2 tiers is nice. Delve drops plenty of maps, temple helps
You have to run higher level maps. Whats your atlas completion? The more maps you complete the higher chance you have of getting higher level maps. Once you start running 12-14 tier maps you will get a nice bank of lower t11-t13 ones.
I have atlas complete objectives through partial T12. Bonus Obs through all of T10, save Unique Maps, since everything got reset w/ 3.5.

It's hard to hear:

"You have to run higher maps"

When you aren't getting higher maps to run, and Zana only has 1 Red Map at a time, if she has them, and most people you whisper about buying maps don't respond.
Do you know about 3-1 map recipe? Vendor 3 same maps for 1 adjacent map of next tier. If you can sustain let's say t10 - you farm them until you either get a +1 map to drop or you have enough of t10 to do the recipe. Once you have all t11 that way - complete them. Now do the same with t11 to get all t12. And so on. You can aim for running influenced maps to increase drops. If you get a really juicy map - add a zana mod (breach, abyss). You can shape maps in map device to force yourself into higher tiers.

Seeing a screenshot of your atlas might reveal something.
Yes. I know about the 3-1.

Generally, that's a loss of what you can trade them for.

I will SS the Atlas when I get home.

You don't do it regularly for profit, you do it occasionally when you can not drop a specific

So, you know about trading, then? Buy the maps you need to complete your atlas. Once you get to 130/152 completion (or so), you should have no trouble maintaining red maps.

do you run the side content? Alva's Temple can drop maps and there is also map room (storage room can also contain map stash). In Azurite mine, map drops are very rare, but the nodes in City bioms drop ton of maps.

for me, sustaining maps is easier than ever. maybe you were a bit unlucky. easiest way would be buying bunch of maps to get a new pool to start with

Where's your Atlas completion bonus sitting at?

Are there any lower-level maps you never got around to completing? This is easy to track if you have the map stash tab.

Completing those (including unique maps you have yet to complete) should be your first priority, since they give a cumulative bonus to map drop tier in subsequent mmaps.
