CWDT has stopped firing Despair curse

Hello, I am a lvl 55 Occultist with a lvl 1 Cast When Damage Taken gem linked to a lvl 9 Despair curse. The curse would fire automatically before but for some reason has stopped and there is no '!' gem letter code attached to my Despair skill so I can see the CWDT gem is not applied to it.
I have recently used a skill point to receive Mind Over Matter which subtracts mana instead of life first when I take damage. Could it be that the CWDT is not responding because mana is being subtracted before life and damage is not being recorded correctly? Thanks. Last bumped on Jan 17, 2019, 2:01:47 AM

" It seems as though your Despair is too high of a level. If you look at the description on "Cast When Damage Taken" gem, you will see that it can only support gems up to a certain level. I hope this helps. EDIT: Level 1 "Cast on Damage Taken" can only support gem that require up to level 38. Level 9 "Despair" has a level 48 requirement. At lvl 1 CWDT it can support max level of spell gems to lvl 38, my Despair is lvl 9. Where can I see that lvl 9 Despair works with lvl 48? And what is this lvl 48? |

Use a lower level Despair gem or a higher level CWDT.

Something doesn't make sense to me. I have a lvl 2 Despair now and it is firing and needs me to be lvl 27, however my lvl 9 Despair wouldn't work at me needing to be lvl 50 even though I was lvl 55.
I cannot see how the situation has changed but my Despair is firing again at lvl 2 and requirement lvl 27 even though I am still lvl 55. Can someone explain please? |

" So this isn't to do with your Character level, but the level of Despair vs the level of Cast when Damage Taken. If you look at the Cast when Damage Taken description: "This Gem can only Support Skill Gems requiring Level 38 or lower" That's for a level 1 Cast when Damage Taken, this means that it can only support gems that have a level requirement of 38 or lower. As you level up Cast When Damage Taken;
This is how it is balanced. You can cast weaker spells more frequently, or you can cast more powerful ones but not as often. At any time you can mouse-over the Cast When Damage Taken support gem in your equipment to read the restrictions caused by its current level. Honestly, if you're new to the game and finding CWDT this difficult to get to grips with, it might be worth just not using it for a while. Path of Exile has a pretty steep learning curve, and one of the best ways of getting to grips with the game is breaking that up into manageable chunks. |
