Where is Trump when you need him.
Considering you managed to get 2 challenges this leagues, something about your statement seems... off.

Never blame others for the flaws of your potato. It's an important life lesson.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.
I just wanted to point out that GGG has been optiming their engine/tech over the years, and that it has been very noticeable.
Granted, it's far from perfect, but they have been working on it still.

SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
Then Betrayal come and the technical support forum is full with complaints. What did they call it, one small step forward one giant leap backwards?

Agreed. That doesn't stop people below the minimum requirements from trying though. The nature of F2P I'm afraid. It's always the game's fault...

rushed content is a bit of a different issue I guess, it has more been bug and ... well more like design flaws to me this league though.

Fair enough. However, having switched from a potato PC to a much higher-spec system myself only recently, I have some rather recent first-hand experience, and on the low end of the spectrum, it's not been as simple as "it got better" or "it got worse".

On the one hand, they sure did optimise many effects and assets, which alleviated system load somewhat. On the other hand, they kept upgrading graphics.

For me, there was a time when it got slightly better overall (the phase a while after the introduction of DX11, when they kept ironing out performance issues). Then, however, they added new stuff which improved the look of the game, but also raised system requirements in the process. For me, this increase outweighed the performance improvements, making the game slower overall again.

You gotta hand it to them: The new water, for example, looks so much better than the old version. However, it comes at a cost.

To make matters worse, we now have many mechanics in the core game that put a lot of stress on your equipment because they cause a lot of things to happen at the same time: abysses, breaches, incursions, delve encounters... all involve hordes of monsters coming at you in a short time window, forcing you to zoom around and spam your skills.

These encounters also encourage players to use AoE / fast-clear skills, which have a tendency to be heavier on graphics and processing because they cause visual and mechanical effects to happen all over the screen rather than whacking one enemy over the head.

And it's precisely in such encounters where stuttering, frame drops, and lag hurt most. That's why the situation can be perceived as worse than ever for low-end system users despite all the improvements carried out under the hood.

I'm extremely happy after upgrading the system. The game isn't even the same, it's that different. That totally new feeling when you start a boss fight and you don't begin with a four-second lag and then find yourself at 5% life left and surrounded by the boss and his minions as the game slowly stutters up to 4-12 fps again!

Is there some sort of database / overview where users enter their system specs and how well the game is playable with these specs? This might give some insight as to the real system requirements for a pleasant PoE experience.

I just wanted to point out that GGG has been optiming their engine at the wrong places. They made it better for high end pcs where its not that important. For anyone who used to play PoE in the past and come back, he will notice his same computer having terrible performance. Its not far from perfect, its done in reverse..

for some million players, complaints were just peanuts.

on the other hand, a 4 month dev cycle is just crazy for the complex upgrades they deliver for 3 platforms.

yes, they spent alot of time optimising their game for the low end and betrayal added alot of effects that used that optimised space completely.

who is gonna blame them? game needs to look good to attract new players. most of them look at the gameplay before they discover the real depth of ingame mechanics.
