The Elusive Level 100?
Still a noob and the title says it all.
I keep seeing some mentions inside other posts about how most people will never get to 100, etc. I assume 100 is the max level, and I assume it's difficult to reach. Can someone explain this? As a new player, I would think that if you play long enough, you would eventually hit 100 whether you suck at the game or you don't... right? Why the debate? Is 100 gated behind some seriously hard content? Thanks! Last bumped on Dec 22, 2018, 3:57:55 AM

" It's so difficult because after a certain level, every time you die, you lose experience. |

it's incredibly boring to level to 100 you need some serious patience and like E1rik said you lose xp every time you die,so you cant even make a small mistake or you lose days worth of playing

actually never bothered getting that far, though maybe i will this league.
Realistically endgame (the very endgame) has you needing to run very high tier maps to progress in XP, the enemies are dangerous and you RIP a lot, either sending you back to standard league if HC or taking a chunk of XP from you. The amount of XP you get between deaths may lead to a net loss. Also little issues with builds become glaring issues, something that went smooth up until low tier maps can fall apart. And then finally the league will end sending your character back to the standard league dumping grounds. Im pretty sure most people just play league. Im sure in standard there are plenty of lv100s if anyone actually plays standard. THis games always been more fun progressing than endgame content imo just for try, for see and for know

yeah 100 is the cap, and theres diminishing returns on your XP because youre zone level youll be farming is at most 86 at the moment (might be wrong about that as the highest level zone but its around that), you get to a point where at level 99 youll only be getting a few % of a level in a while night playing, and remember, if you die in softcore, you lose 10% and that can be days worth of progress depending on how fast youre gaining XP. its also the amount of time it takes for the final levels
they arent a requirement, theyre just an incentive and a couple of "extra" passives as reward, most players generally "cap out" at around 92-96 in a league, on standard though its probably easier to get to the 100 cap eventually given time and the stupid amount of gear available there. |

We play with what's called a "soft cap"... meaning you're not really expected to ever reach 100. It's "soft" because each player defines it his own way. Mine is about 92. It used to be 85. It's the point where you feel done with a character and stop worrying about level progress. If you play past that, it requires a different strategy. You have to play it safe. Lots of us can't play that way for long enough for it to matter.
Don't even plan on getting to 100. Plan on having your character basically done by 85. Levels after that aren't all that significant. You can add some defensive nodes if you're of that mind or increase your offense slightly... but that's pretty much all those last 15 nodes would be good for. When a character turns 98 he's less than half way to 100. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Dec 21, 2018, 10:13:19 AM

Ohhhhhh. I've seen others talking about losing XP but I haven't noticed it myself. My highest character is 60-ish and if I lose XP when I die, I haven't noticed it.
I realize that most games have diminishing returns as far as XP goes, but it's really THAT slow? Ouch! For those of you who consider 92/94+ "maxed", do you feel as if those last 6 or 8 passive points would have a tremendous impact on your builds? In other words... does level 92/94 feel "finished" to you? I really appreciate your responses. I typically don't engage in forums much, but PoE folks are genuinely helpful. It's refreshing. |

It's almost impossible to get 100 by playing normally, because 10% xp loss at level 99 is hours upon hours of grinding, and playing normally usually means a shitty build zerging bosses and getting oneshot by Betray mobs.
To get to 100 you need a build and an atlas specifically designed for it. The funny thing is, it's not gated behind "hard" content at all. In fact, the more you can trivialize it, the better. Some people used to get 100 in T8 Shaped Burials. I got my 100 in T10 Shaped Toxic Sewers a couple leagues back. These days the HCSSF racers do it by flare running in the mines. No bosses, no map mods, etc. I might try that myself later on just for the sake of getting another 100. |

100 proves you have way too much time on your hands IMO. You could literally build 10 95s in time it takes to make one 100 and those 95s would be just as powerful more or less.
And yes 98 is about halfway to 100 time wise. at 99 and 100 you have to run 1000 maps a level. Depending on the build i consider them done at 91-94.. Git R Dun! Last edited by Aim_Deep#3474 on Dec 21, 2018, 10:23:31 AM
