Why are stat sticks bad?

The "buff everything" crowd doesn't like a game about overcoming adversity. There's lots of examples of games that cater to them... I just don't know their names.

Let's be real shags, melee hasn't been in a great place in general, which is why the stat stick became the go to in the first place.
Yep, totally over league play.
stat sticks became the go to because they are vastly better than not using one it doesn't really have anything to do with melee its because they were the superior option in any circumstance.

I'm trying to come up with a bow example but i can't as they have a stat slot anyway, maybe Chin-Sol would be a good example as its a shit bow that people only use for the 100% more damage at close range, just straight superior to any other scaling option for bows as long as your willing to be in melee.

Hence why its being nerfed really

That's a decent example - I played around with a chin-sol/point blank and couldnt get the numbers I wanted out of it and regular use was painful.

But I meant in the sense that mitigation isn't nearly as effective so reliance on damage output took over.

agreed no contest there, takes alot of passives to get good defenses and every pt you spend is a pt that a ranged build won't, its really where they pull ahead so we all focus on the damage instead.
Reason why it was nerfed was pretty simple.

In what scenario was 2-h, or 1-h with shield, a better option that dual wielding with a stat stick?

the 3 melee style of 2-h, Dual wield, and 1-h/shield are supposed to be balanced. If the fact they only changed dual-wield, and now the forums all of the sudden feel all of melee is dead, just points out that 2-h and 1-h/shield was NEVER a valid option. They are just as good as before, probably a bit better, but all of melee is nerfed?

As for why not buff instead of nerf, it's more energy and time efficient. if one brick is sticking out of a wall, it is much easier to put the brick back in, then bring every other brick out. I mean, sure, they coulda boosted 2-h, 1-h and shield, bow, spells, monster life, monster damage by like 500%, and left dual wield alone, but it's a lot more work for the same effect.

You specifically enjoyed being shoehorned into using dual-wield skills that could be tricked into only using one weapon for power?

Are you sure you're not sad at the loss/reduction of a specific path to power? It can be hard to differentiate that feeling from one of losing something you enjoyed, when you become accustomed to it.

Next patch you can hunt onehanders with good stats, instead of specifically only pDPS and stat-stick spreads.
I think people are still missing the point that stat sticks have been a thing for years and no one complained because they weren't op. Shaper mods are what were broken.

I get that it is easier for people to bunch everything together in a simple bitesize name or meme but this is a big part of why GGG sometimes make
baffling balance decisions.

(Shaper) stat sticks were just a band aid for melee, trying to shift the META. Melee was shit, is shit - but at least it got its "15 minutes of fame" (read: one year of not being shit).

Now, while power creep through Incursion items/corruptions, Fossil Crafting/items and so on has made it's mark on the rest of the game, GGG decided to set melee builds one year back in time. While stat sticks were arguable dumb, and gave no benefits to melee as a whole (only dual wielders), removing them without compensation is just... Sad.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

You might be right but I'd reserve judgement till we see what veiled mods bring. Also expect fossil crafting to produce some gg phys dam + shaper mod hybrids.
