As a veteran D2 player, should I join PoE on December 7?
If you love ARPGs and have some free time to spare I can't recommend PoE enough.

"` I totally agree. While Diablo's is very well crafted and cool I actually love POE's more. I actually like that it has a lot of holes of unknown lore. I makes it more mysterious and give you room to wonder about possibilities. I mean if you look at diablo's story it's the same shit over and over again: Diablo is incarnated in Sanctuary. Kill him. Oh shit our hero stabbed the soulstone in his head and became Diablo (duh). Kill him. Diablo's brodher wants the worldstone. Kill him. Diablo ploting from the shadows to do somethign totally new ... oh ..oh he just reincarnated in his daughter. Kill him. (we should probably destroy the dam soulstone to like stop Diablo from comming back) Neah let's hide it because that worked well in the past. Oh noooo an angel went rogue and got the soulstone we did not destroy! Kill him. Diablo will probably come back .. dum dum dum... "He alwasy finds a way" (we will have to kill him) My point is that it's very predictable. In POE there are many antagonists and many different threats unrelated with their own goals and struggles. Take Shaper: yeah big bad boss up to no good but you kinda feel for him if you read his memories and Zana's dialogues and even more in context with the Elder. Same goes for Izaro and Atziri. they are way more complex characters than Diablo who is like TERROR ..DURR HURR. Also to reply to OP: if you are into PVP don't play POE. "Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."

" I took shaper as a villan example that is way more deep than Diablo for example. I never said it was not obvious if you have half of brain. I mean like I said his goals and reasons for doing what he did are way more relatable and understandable than just ...TERROR... TERRRORR... I want to spread it because I am THE LORD OF IT... For the point I am trying to make it's a great example. Let's just agree to disagree. "Never argue with an idiot. They will take you down to their level and beat you trough experience."

" I never played D2 so I can't say. I did play D3 and about a year ago switch to PoE...vastly superior to D3. " If you like the grinding playstyle, which I assume you do, then you will most likely enjoy PoE from the moment you start to several hundred hours in. There are a vast array of builds out there and no cookie-cutter end all that must be done in order to achieve success. After 300 hours you probably won't have even beaten all end game bosses. [/quote] " As others have mentioned, most players start a league early on and leave after finishing the content they wish. I recommend starting then or even now to get a feel for leveling if you don't care to start over in a few days. I will refrain from answering question 2 as I don't participate in PvP and didn't play D2. However, I don't believe many people participate in the PvP section. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets changed since the PvP master "mysteriously disappeared." Question 3 was answered previously. " Every game will have its haters. I find very few in PoE. Public group play, however, is lacking in accessibility. The board where you join group parties has more people hawking wares than filling groups. " I don't think I've seen a build yet that gets "nerfed so hard that it may become useless." Builds change, but they are so diverse to begin with, GGG would have to be on a vendetta to nerf it out of existence. I certainly do not want to play the same thing each league...otherwise I'd play standard. I suppose melee is "out," but people still play it successfully. |

1) superior in almost every way (except maybe that I prefer the Diablo lore/world, but Oriath is pretty damn cool too).
yes to all of those questions. no to pvp, there is no pvp. yes you should join the new league. 2) there is essentially no pvp. and probably never will be, since the game is just too complex for any even remotely sensible/balanced pvp. (perhaps within a heavily modified subsystem with character presets it could be done, but I doubt that's the devs' focus, or the players' for that matter). PoE is a strictly pve game at this point. 3) a lot. hundreds of thousands. you can look at steam charts online, and the devs stated that steam only accounts for only half or less of active players, so double that at least. PoE is very successful, and has been the go-to game in this genre for a while. during the launch of a new league, it is usually a top 10, or even top 5 game at twitch browser. yes. obviously, there's gonna be a ton of players from US/CA... 4) great community. tons of fun and creativity. interesting personalities, livestreamers etc. I mean, like any other group of ppl, there's always gonna be some unpleasant individuals, that's normal. 5) possibly. if you are playing something that's clearly broken, then you should expect that it's likely gonna get fixed/nerfed. otherwise, the game changes constantly, you have to adapt, just like in real life, everything is dynamic, like a continuous flow. that's part of what keeps it interesting, rather than stale. |

I answer your basic one. The one if you should or should not.
Only you can decide that, for yourself. Not anyone else. Maybe you should go ahead and quite simply just try it. Either you like it or you don´t. |

Hey guys,
I am amazed that there are 3 pages of detailed replies to my tread! The community seems very nice and welcoming! The PvE seems amazing even in the endgame. Endgame PvP is important to me as it gives meaning to 100+ hours required to build a character in many multiplayer RPGs. I do appreciate your honesty about the low quality of PoE’s PvP or the lack of interesting PvP, it seems everybody is very much united about this. I’m not sure if I will join PoE for now. I hope PoE’s endgame PvP will improve over time. Thank you for your support! |

As a veteran D2 player myself to save the wall o text - YES!
I came here during the first weeks release of D3. After that game being an ultra fail I tried to look for a true successor to Diablo 2 and stumbled upon PoE (which at the time only had 3 acts). And I never returned. My only gripe here is party play needs MORE EMPHASIS. Seriously. I need not elaborate. Public games SHOOULD be a thing. And theres not nearly enough of them. And PVP is pretty much non existent here. In Diablo2 thats what kept me around. Here i stick around because I generally enjoy the game and the developers. |

I'm a D2 Veteran who mostly played it for PvP and PKing; it's crap in this game. I've played PoE since beta, love it. However, if D2 wasn't on such crap resolution and the graphics were updated I'd more than likely quit PoE. I play this game because for the time it's out, it's the best in the genre. D3 is crap and others are okay but this is definitely the best for 2018.
