Help a noob out (Witch lvl 41)
Hello, I am new to the game, playing for 10 hrs now. I went to the forums to see some builds but i couldnt understand anything...
Anyway my build is arc lightning witch. i maxed almost all skills related to lightning but the problem is with bosses.... I am slow and die quickly, example: first trials of ascendancy boss... I have around 10% spell crit chance and I will be taking Elemental Overload soon. Can someone tell me how to be faster and also i need a blink spell, like where to find a good blinking spell, i see people blink far distances in few duels i got rekt in... I also have 5 minions to distract the enemies while i arc them, i one shot almost everyone but bosses kill me fast. i have around 400 energy shield and 700 hp. Cant upload any pictures of my skill tree since its just too much work to go to 3rd party image hosting site etc but believe me i get these types of games i know what skills to focus.. Also one more question: how to unlock that special circle in skill tree for witch called elementalist and necromancer ??? Okay this is what happens when you don’t follow a guide and are new in poe.
So generally picking up all lightning damage at the start is usually a bad idea. As it means you prob didn’t put enough points in life Do not use energy shield unless you know what you are doing, just use life alone There are so many beginner arc builds that are extremely detailed and easy to understand out there check out the witch forums |

Hey there,
first things first: Please unhide your characters in your accounts privacy settings. Otherwise we cant see your gear, skilltree etc. and cant help. General advice: - You could use a decoy totem to distract bosses - Flame Dash is a good skill for casters to dodge attacks - Stack about 300 hp per act to deal with content comfortably - You can unlock those "circles" by completing the labyrinth. Thats when you are allowed to pick your subclass or Ascendancy - Try to cap your elemental res (use a purity of elements aura if you have to, available in act3) Good luck Last edited by Orbaal#0435 on Nov 16, 2018, 4:55:27 AM

Q: how to unlock that special circle in skill tree for witch called elementalist and necromancer ???
A: You need to defeat Izaro in normal difficulty labyrinth, more info here: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/The_Lord%27s_Labyrinth#The_Labyrinth Look for: The Labyrinth Monster Level: 33 Strategy: put down a decoy totem and while izaro slams it arc away. It's important to eliminate the secondary threats in the labyrinth phases as they empower Izaro for the next encounters and you don't want that. You have information regarding the labyrinth here (lab changes layout each day): https://www.poelab.com/fdghed/ Q: i maxed almost all skills related to lightning [...] i have around 400 energy shield and 700 hp A: Try getting more life even if it means letting go of damage nodes in tree, it helps not getting one-shot by Izaro in the lab Q: I went to the forums to see some builds but i couldnt understand anything... A: Did you check this build? It hand feeds all information including leveling: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1147951 Q: i need a blink spell, like where to find a good blinking spell A: flame dash linked with faster casting: https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Flame_Dash Lastly, check poe.trade and use whatever currency you found (alchemy orbs, chaos orbs to buy upgrades to your weapon (more damage) and gear (life and resistance)). This game is based on trading and not using it only gimps your progress. Second-class poe gamer Last edited by pr13st#1040 on Nov 16, 2018, 4:58:03 AM

Hello and welcome to PoE. For new players it is extremely helpful to watch Engineering Eternity's video series for new PoE players:
Engineering Eternity: Beginner's Guide Series For the Labyrynth you should watch: Path of Exile: The Labyrinth Guide Also a good source of PoE information for new players is: The Twilight Strand "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. Now that I can see your character and passive tree we can help you better. Thanks for doing that.
One of the main keys to surviving boss battles (other than quick reflexes to move out of harms way) is to increase your movement speed. The primary way is to find boots that have "% increased movement speed" such as: "xx% increased Movement Speed" ranges up to 35%. A 2nd way to increase movement speed temporarily is to use a Quicksilver flask: If you are lucky enough to find a Quicksilver flask with added quality (such as my example) then the time it lasts increases. Default time is 4 seconds, with 13% quality it has 4.5 seconds of effect. Then there is gear such as: that will increase your movement speed. For my example I plan on using the Bronn's Lithe in a Shield Charge build. There are a few unique items with increased move speed: This would be good for an archer/bow or other ranged attack build. Finally, you want to use a movement skill gem such as the Flame Dash that I have in my Wanderlust Wool Shoes. With a movement skill you can quickly dodge and avoid Izaro's slower wind up damage attacks. One trick that most players utilize is to circle attack a boss when possible and never stand still for very long. By circle attacking I mean attack, move, attack, move (rinse and repeat). Never stand still for long (unless you can tank all damage) or allow yourself to be cornered (a sure way to die) from Izaro or any other boss. It doesn't matter whether you go clockwise or counter-clockwise around a boss, whichever direction works for you. As stated in the Engineering Eternity Labyrinth guide video, it is generally understood to be above the Lab level you are running by at least a few levels. Old PoE (before power and speed creep craziness) most waited until 10 levels higher before making the next Lab run but today with PoE 3.4.x maybe only a couple levels above 33 for the Normal Lab run would suffice. At level 41 you should have no problem (even as a new player) of defeating normal Izaro. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..." Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. Movement speed goes to 35% on higher item levels. You'll need to trade for those or get them from some of the highest tier maps.

Ok thanks everyone I will use more points in life maybe even refund some energy shield points and invest into life. didnt know its that important since i one-shot mobs from range. i will use random modifiers to try to get movement speed on gloves and boots
Is it smart using magics "Herald of Thunder" and "Discipline" that limit my usable mana to 25% with skill "Mind over matter" ?? EDIT: Just tried to purchase an item on market, had no idea how to do it, filters are super complicated, i am gonna stick to random modifying...
