No, you'll still get the colour associated with the item more often (like blue on an int base) but since you are essentially just looking for a one off colour you'll do better than by looking for 4 off colours using chromes.

Again, just complementing information here; adding a socket rolls this new socket with the exact same odds as for chromatics, but the cost is different. Re-adding the third socket (4 jewellers) is equivalent to forcing two offsockets on an existing 3-socket (15 or 25 chroms). For the fourth socket, it's equivalent to guaranteeing three colours on a 4-socket (13 jewellers to 100-120 chroms).

Conversely, if chromatic orbs were worth considerably less, this method wouldn't be more efficient than the regular use of Vorici.
