There is our range indicator. " There is our patch note. Finally, our longest weapon range is 28 and our shortest weapon range is 8. AKA 9 auto range and 2 auto range. It's actually, factually, literally impossible to do anything whatsoever that will make the melee asswagons on this board happy, unless that thing is "Increase the damage of all melee skills by 1500%, decrease the damage of all non-melee skills by 1500%, and grant all characters with nothing but melee weapons and no ranged skills or spells equipped 20k bonus health, 50k bonus armor, and 80% flat all damage reduction before armor." I don't want to argue your view on people being whiners. I don't like the negativity on the forums/reddit, even when I actually agree at times. However, pointing at Sunder and Earthquake as being so great, as if they compare to something like arc or tornado shot, is just crazy. Sunder is really only good as a levelling skill, almost no one actually runs late-game with it. Earthquake is a good skill, but its no better than the ranged options which are also 100% faster and safer. I guess I'm just not sure what your point is except to complain about whiny complainers? If that is the only point, then that's fine.

Everything Grinding Gear does to/with/about/in the general vicinity of melee only pisses them off more. I want to know what they honestly believe should be done, and if it really is something as completely inane and unreasonable as "make EVERY SPELL/PROJECTILE BUILD IN THE GAME significantly slower than namelock Heavy Striking packs down one critter at a time". I cannot figure out what they actually want. They seem to hate any and every type of melee skill or melee build that isn't "I Conan my way through Wraeclast one swing of my sword at a time", but they also detest the fact that this super incredibad, utterly suboptimal playstyle cannot be the dominant style of the game. Just...go play friggin' Dark Souls already. Go do that. Go play Dark Souls. That's the melee combat you want, right? I do not understand the melee whiners in this forum. I flat do not. It is perfectly possible to build perfectly competitive melee builds that clear just fine and can take down endgame bosses, but they want non-splash, non-Call, non-Multistrike, sub-two-APS pure-single-target-ONLY Heavy Strike to be significantly more effective than Queen of the Forest Kinetic Blast speedclear murderhobo builds at doing the speedclear murderhoboing thing and I cannot comprehend how a brain can arrive at that point. "Melee people" want their role back. They don't really have one in this game. They're not tanky enough to tank, and they're not damaging enough to damage. Where do they fit? They get played only because people enjoy it.
Melee should be able to tank and taunt. A team of Melee/caster should be damn near invincible. In this game however, the team of Caster/caster does better, melee/caster comes second, and melee/melee comes third. Melee can play the game. But there's nothing that non-melee can't do better. |

You should have seen the explosion of butthurt insanity when Blade Flurry was released. The storm of 'LOL "MELEE"' memes, the hurricane of vitriol over Grinding Gear's "fix" for melee being "hey, let's release a skill that acts exactly like a shitty channeled spell but uses your dagger stats instead because LAWL" and various other ridiculous insanity. To say nothing of Ancestral Warchief.
It was absolutely bonkers. People were legit, straight-up saying "this isn't melee! Melee is when you swing your sword and you hit a guy with it! Screw all this big-AoE "melee" crap, I WANT REAL MELEE TO NOT SUCK!" They were straight-up asking for Heavy Strike to be the best skill in the game, and I've never once been able to figure it out. It's like people don't even realize that almost every bow skill in the game has a vastly lower weapon damage multiplier than the strong majority of melee skills, or that every single bow skill in the game with the sole exceptions of Burning Arrow and Siege Bad-lista are built for scatters of low-damage pepper hits, while melee has numerous options for huge, heavy hits that stun properly or pop shit in one go. Yeah, well-done ranged builds can ramp up to do the same, but it takes ranged builds longer and costs them more currency to do the same thing. Top players will make the game look effortless no matter what they play because that's what they do. If you're anywhere near that good, it doesn't matter what you play. You can make Cleave work, or Sweep, or whatever else you feel like. It's your own bloody choice to try and run non-splash, non-Call, non-Multistrike Heavy Strike and try to Conan your way through a game you know full well doesn't support or encourage that sort of thing. If that's the only way you can have fun, go play a different game. This one isn't for you. Otherwise? Give up the bloody ghost already, admit that melee is fucking fine - especially now that Kinetic Blast finally got trimmed back - and have fun playing whichever skill floats your boat in Delve.
