XP loss after death is the worst possible design decision
Hi.
I just reached lvl 50 and killed Kitava. Cool, so I do my first Labyrinth and then go on with Act II. At some point, I saw my XP... what was more than 80% is now 1%. What the fuck? I asked around and discovered that after Kitava you lose xp after every death. Well, I die A LOT in this game, some bosses basically chain-kill me. I was pissed off but I wanted to give it another chance and kept playing. Took the whole morning of playing, more carefully than before, and reached 80% again... then guess what? I get to Shavronne and I'm now back to 0% XP. ALT+F4, ragequit. This is the worst possible design decision I can imagine for a game like this. XP loss per death was around during the 90s (I can think of DAoC, for example), then disappeared FOR A GOOD REASON. No decent modern games have it (yes, Dark Souls kinda does but it's set up in a whole different way). It's harsh and unfair. It's infuriating. It adds nothing to the game experience. It's a waste of precious game time. And it will be what will drive me away from this game. You seriously need to think about removing it. There's an hardcore mode for hardcore people. Let "normal" players have fun too. Last edited by Fuz#6256 on Aug 2, 2018, 12:47:56 PM Last bumped on Aug 4, 2018, 12:14:47 PM

" It adds something actually. It shows you in a very obvious way that your character is too weak for the part of the game you're currently playing. |

" I agree with you, but you haven't seen the worst of it, try getting to level 95+ which gives you 1% each map, and then 1% for each 2 maps, and then 3 maps, and then you die because of lag/dc or some bullshit, rolling back 10, 20, or 30 maps LOL Buff life on the right side of the tree! Just a little! Pretty Please!

" Actually, no. Hardest possible is when your character is deleted with all his items after first death. Anyway this game is not for whiners so if you crying about XP lose on lvl 50 then it is better for you to find another game to play. retired from forum because of censorship and discrimination
(also poe2 bad) |

The game is balanced around no-lifers who play 24/7/365 with top meta builds. Wanna play a bit different? Suffer.
Organic chemistry is a weird thing. If you add a spoon of shit to a barrel of jam you'll get a barrel of shit.

Some things are just archaic 'round here and are gonna stay that way.
Usually the army of wk's should arrive around now telling you if youre that bad then just stop playing, and how great it is that death penalty is there so nubs can suffer - because since they personally know the game/play op enough builds that they aren't really affected by it they can't realize death penalty is only okay when you mostly avoid it - there is actually no real gain outside ladder race protection from glass cannons but that is the sole extent of the benefit. Instead, it destroys many players' experiences and reduces the amount of viable builds - for no good reason. They will still tell you how important it is - because let's face it, nubs who die way too much are a real threat in this game. Ups lets also remember other games - softcore without laming death penalty are generally still slower ladder race than HC where the most "pro" players play and the most competition, streamers etc. So even the ladder protection effect is insignificant. It's just a stupid concept in the current form that destroys far more for almost zero benefit. Let the damn nubs play their bad builds and die over and over if they want - they are not a threat. That and builds wrecked by patches are probably the two most likely reasons players ragequit poe with a bad taste in their mouth, it killed so much for this game and the devs have no clue. Fuck it man. Just let it go. They will never get the basic clue on this type of thing. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all. " Perfectly put. This was actually my experience discussing the issue on Reddit. Well, time to try Grim Dawn, I guess. | |
Well i should at least say - that if you play enough you will eventually get good enough at making characters that death penalty won't be such a problem.. but.. it's unnecessary strain on the playing experience. It pushes people away from the game. PoE is a good game with thousands of hours in it before it gets too boring, if you like ARPG's and building characters.
