Have you tried checking your connection? https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1377789

The Dallas PoE Realm has always had a bad node that acts up from time to time. I gave up on using it from my SW Florida location and have been using the WDC realm exclusively since the beginning of this year. Not sure why SoftLayer/HardLayer (now it's IBM Cloud I've been told) can't get a handle on what hardware is causing the lag and fix or replace the faulty hardware but this has been an ongoing problem for years with the Dallas Realm.

All anyone can do is run WinMTR tests on their own link and see where the problem is:

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

nothing wrong with the texas realm, it's something between you and the server. i play on TX from Michigan, with a stable 45-60 ping. The server menu says DC should give me lower ping, but something in that connection is wonky, because every 3 seconds i spike to 80-90 ping, and then drop back to 45. not worth the hassle when TX is comparable and steady.
? I connect to TX realm exclusively and never had problems outside of release days.
I agree with others that it's something between you and the server. I get 30ms from Kansas with no dcs.

Maybe from your end, been playing on Texas gateway for like 4 years and have only had issues once or twice since joining (aside from major patch release days ofc). *shrugs*

The problem doesn't ever seem to be at the Dallas PoE server center but in one of the last hops near the realm.

Just running my own test I get:

With over 500 tests it's showing problems at:

ae7.cbs02.sr02.hou02.networklayer.com
ae3.cbs01.dr01.dal04.networklayer.com
ae8.cbs01.eq01.dal03.networklayer.com

This is significant packet loss and I've run WinMTR tests in past years with similar results showing packet loss not at the PoE realm data center (528 sent - 528 received) but in Texas (dal04, dal03) and maybe even Houston (hou02). Any way you interpret the numbers it just causes playing lag and frustration.

Edit: I'll state further (before some one else complains I'm not understanding) that the nodes that show packet loss could just be because the ICMP function of these large nodes is de-prioritized to not take must overhead on the router engine cpu so it could be just failing to respond to the ping requests in a timely manner and that's why this shows up in WinMTR as packet loss when in fact there may not be any at that node. That is certainly a possibility (can't disprove it) but I see this as the Cisco router engine (every Internet company uses Cisco hardware right?) is getting close to or is maxing out on it's packet processing capacity so packets are getting dropped.

Other dumbed down explanation: Too many are trying to stream video right now.

Sure, im not saying there arent connection issues present. but to just blindly scream 'the texas server is fail', is so hilariously ignorant. data has to travel back and forth through multiple different hubs, many of which are owned by separate entities with their own quirks. Yelling at GGG to fix the problem is like yelling at the sun because it's too warm - nothing changing.

i did hear a story about a group of League players that all got data proving packet loss at a specific isp location, and were actually able to get that ISP to investigate/fix the issue. But GL if you try that, sounds like a huge hassle.
For what it's worth, I had some problems with certain European servers for the last few days (it comes and goes) so it might be routine maintenance shenanigans or something. Unless you're talking about a long-term issue.

Good luck.

Same gateway, zero routing issues.

@Thror2k5: Yep, dealing with an ISP when it comes to routing issues can be a nightmare. Months of back and forth, techs coming to the house, techs prowling the neighborhood, etc... It can be frustrating to say the least but worth the effort when you can play with zero issues. :)
