Death Penalty - XP Loss Is To Much

The XP loss from dying in the late game is way to much, there needs to be a cap per map or event that you can loose. I'm at zero xp after playing the game for more than three hours today trying to go from 87 to 88. That is just crazy. I've lost over 30% in this one map by dying four times and I've still got to kill the boss (who has killed me three of the four.)

they wont change it so try not to die so much. why did you keep trying the boss so many times when you knew you will keep dying and losing xp? if you want to level up play it safe and avoid hard bosses especially when they already killed you once
A 10% penalty isn't that bad and at 87/88, you can make that back in 1-2 maps.

I would suggest that you change your mindset and start asking yourself why you're dying so much and what can you can do to improve your build.

Take a look at your defensive stats to start with and in particular, your resists and life pool.
Lul try to die at lvl past 97 that really hurts, 10% at lvl 87 is like 10 minutes of gameplay or even less.

Frostblades is not single target skill. In most builds it is used for maps, and for bosses are replaced with something else, for single target. Like bladeflurry, for instance. Then, two bloodseeker's? Really? You will not get more life leeching this way. Besides, dual wielding make real mess with your "tooltip damage". In other words, your “tooltip damage” can be 10k, while your real damage is around 6k. Checked in PoB many times.

So, in your case solution is simple. Get Lycosidae shield or some strong stat sticker instead of second Bloodseeker. Then get better amulet – with life and at least +35% ele damage with attack skills. Get better belt, some stygian vise with life, resistances and at least +35% ele damage with attack skills. Then craft some nice opal rings. Then find some nice single target skill suitable for your build and replace frostblades for bossing. Unfortunately for unknown reason my browser cant display your tree, which is probably mess too, but changes mentioned above should do :)

If you die that much, it is for a very valid reason... The build you're running is not capable of progressing further. Make a better one!

Getting to L100 (or whatever) is not a reward for just playing long enough. It is a reward for playing AND knowing how to build a character that can actually do it.

The 10% XP loss per death is fine.

The guy above made some valid points so make sure you follow them. I did downed shaper last league with frost blades (not kidding) and was doing all guardians pretty eazy, you can check my profile, character name is "_Get_Rekt_" I later swaped for Wild Strike, it uses same tree but is significantly stronger than frost blades at single target with same clearspeed.

Really? I scoped your build, in theory it is possible, especialy on lvl 98, but... how long was that fight? 15 minutes (whole run)? I run wild strike/molten strike ascendant myself and my strongest wildstrike damage, in HO, without any buffs and flasks is approx. 120k tooltip damage, with 60% ele penetration, but I would not even think to fight Shaper with that. Good for maps, but for bosses? Hell no:) Up to T14, then swapping to molten strike is a must. Beside, Shaper run should take max 4-5 minutes.
Yes. Yes it is.

In my opinion, the exp loss on death (and it should remain in some form) needs to be tied to exp gain somehow. This debate is ongoing, in about a post a week.

The fact that as you level the exp penalty for GAIN increases while the exp loss on death remains fixed is stupid.

For the average player*, you really see the penalty post level 85; before that you can easily run 100+ MM/hr exp, after that you can struggle to top 50 MM/hr in even higher maps.

The penalty is incredibly burdensome, and still GGG cannot protect their precious level 100 from rushers and poop sockers. So what's the point?

*In before the Git Gud and "I run 200 MM/hr exp at level 90 all the time" crowd shows up.
