it plays just like the normal game, sure It could really use some updating but once you set it up right its fine I dont see any any key!

" It's dumbed down in that it does things for you to make gameplay quicker, but you can turn all those things off, there's a few things that don't work quite right yet, but it is in a beta. It's also dumbed down because it's Standard, but I'm one of those smug eternal players so there's that. Scrotie is sort of right though, part of what makes the MTG experience smooth is shortcutting, and you just can't do that digitally. Having to play through lots of things by clicking kinda sucks. It's not as bad as he makes it out to be, but it definitely feels worse than paper magic. Being strictly pay to play is also a downside, HS is realistically a free to play game, it takes some doing to start now that there are many sets, but once you're there you don't need to pay anymore if you just do your quest every day. It's also not helped that WoTC does not do anything to attract quality programmers. The reason you work for WoTC as a programmer is because you want to work on their stuff, not because they're a competitive employer in the Seattle area. "Technically, the number of turns (aka phases or "priority") in a "turn" is, last I checked, at least 7, and that's if no one plays anything - playing anything immediately adds another turn or two to that. The sheer amount of turn skipping where nothing is played, and gameplay pace relative to turns taken, in MTG is so obnoxious that the only thing that makes it bearable is the assumption that a turn/priority is passed unless a player actually interrupts another, which necessitates the ability to rewind back to a prior auto-pass of priority if one's opponent is going unreasonably fast - which is a purely subjective call. This is not feasible in a digital format and frankly can be trying even in real life. I understand that MTGO tries to get around this by formalizing the automatic passing of priority, but this is technically self-gimping for the purposes of smoother gameplay. Automatic passing without the rewind function is revealing information about what you're capable of doing with your instants; the best play from a purely gamewinning perspective is to never automatically pass priority ever. MTGO's autopassing is a mechanic guilty of the ultimate design sin - making "fun" and "optimal" in clear and diametric opposition to each other, forcing players to weigh tedium versus giving away free info at best or play opportunities at worst. As a result MTGO is an abomination and should be played by no one ever. Paper MTG is still fine. Admittedly I haven't checked out MTG Arena or any other attempts to translate the Magic brand to digital. As far as I'm concerned, the only solution is the complete abolishment of instants and the stack... at which point it wouldn't actually be Magic anymore. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. regarding MTGArena, I really really hate it, that thing is beyond broken in my screen resolution
and I find it pretty funny how you cant even stretch window/create custom resolution yet they expect to go against hearthstone when it likely wont even work in half the phones/tablets. Amazingly complained about this once in the forums and loads of drones came to the rescue, most people there didnt seem to have the balls to ask of decent coding from a multimillion dollar company. Well its alright, I dont think I like Ixalan anyway. There seems to be too much tribal aggro and restricted land ramp that makes it so its not a good environment for johnnies like me. Oblivious

" You should go look at the starting salary of a programmer at WoTC versus anywhere else in Seattle and it will all make sense. In fairness though it's still in beta and doesn't have a planned date for going into open beta yet even. As for Scrotie, I guess I just got used to manually passing phases, also there are hotkeys for things like, "just pass unless my opponent does something." Arena "solves" the problem by auto passing if you can't do anything, of course then they know you can't do anything. It's main problem though is that the developers just don't seem to understand how competitive players want to get new cards, and why forcing packs as the only option just isn't going to work well. Anywho this is getting off topic. So on topic: 1. Wild is all the cards, standard is the new cards from basic, classic, ungoro, litch king, kobolds, and witchwood. It's hard to give straight advice on which one you'd like better, as they just play very differently, but you've got the cards to play wild now, and not standard, so there's that. 2. Find a deck in the format you want to play and buy packs from the sets that have the most cards you don't have. 3. Yup arena is better value, as losing out give you 1 pack and something else.
