When Attack Projectiles Return!!
In an ongoing effort to whore the heck out of my Skin of the Loyal, I was thinking of a Tasalio's Sign build. It's a ring that I liked ever since it first came out, and when I saw it again I realized that GGG has actually buffed it substantially from what it used to be.
Cute and yummy isn't it? I decided that it was a cast on critical strike ring seeing as it gives 50 cold damage to attacks and spells at the same time. It's evasion rating would go well with the 100% global defenses of Skin of the Loyal as well. I would use Lightning Strike as my attack skill. As far as Ascendancy goes, I am considering either Assassin for pure crit, Trickster for defense, or Deadeye for what just might be the highest damage and utility between the three choices. But I'm not sure. It all depends on how Attack Projectiles Return after Hitting Targets interacts with m y dagger of choice: Combined with Powerful Precision, enemies on full life at close range would have a +200% chance to receive a crit from a Deadeye. But I'm wondering how returning attack projectiles interact with this. Either they will give have 0% additional crit, 100% additional crit, or 200%. Also, does the Tasalio's Sign give its bonus damage on both the initial strike and the return hit? Thanks! Last bumped on Feb 10, 2018, 5:26:03 AM

Quick Update: Level 24 currently. These rings are no joke. I have never ever ever melted Vaal so quick and I wasn't even optimized for OP low level damage. Wow, PoE community, have a second look at Tasalio's Sign!

" No, they would not. You will have a 200% increased chance of dealing a crit to those enemies. This gets added with all other sources of chance to crit as usual. " There is no interaction between the two. "Nearby" is simply some radius around your character. A Nearby enemy is a Nearby enemy, it does not matter what path the projectile took to get to them. You would have 200% increased chance to crit against Nearby enemies on Full Life, and 100% increased chance to crit against all other Nearby enemies. It does not matter if the projectile is traveling "forwards" or is "returning". (I was not able to determine at a glance what the exact range of "nearby" is in this case, sorry.) " Yes, they are two separate Hits. Both of them benefit from the same modifiers. Some additional unsolicited random thoughts: Projectiles can only Return when they hit an enemy. Therefore if there is nothing for you to hit "behind" the target you're attacking (outside of "nearby" range), they will never return to you and you won't get the duplicated hits. Lightning Strike can use any weapon. Therefore you will not be able to use the dagger as a stat stick, you have to actually attack with it (at least every other attack if dual-wielding). The damage of LS is based on weapon damage, and since the dagger has no base damage to speak of, every other attack of yours will be very limp. Pretty sure if enemy you hit is on full life - you will get bonus, if not - you don't. Doesn't matter if it's initial proj or returning. As for damage from ring - you get it once. If you are asking if you get added damage again for returning projectile, then it's a no
Pretty garbo ring overall, considering all it has is a little bit of dmg. Dagger is even worse :/ |

Thanks guys! If I'm not mistaken the 40-60 damage applies to attacks and spells. So the good thing is that during cast on crit, the bonus damage will be tripled if I get procs from 2 spells + the attack. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Also, the dagger is a leveling dagger. Of course at level 70 or so I'd want something more serious. But about lightning strike and Tasalio's sign, 2x Tasalio's add 140 cold damage per attack. So just look at that dagger as if it says it has +140 cold damage on it. The tooltip won't show the projectile damage of LS so tooltip will look much lower than it actually is. I plan on using the dagger by itself while leveling + a shield. Because Skin of the Loyal loves shields with ES on them. |

It's actually not a Garbo ring at all other than the downside of no life. Some people don't like the 40-60 damage doesn't show in the tooltip.
-adds more flat ele damage than any other ring (pretty sure rares included) -combined with the added evasion and cold resist it's best in slot for a perfect form and dreamfeather pure cold ranger. (Which can do Uber atziri now that they can be chilled post 3.0) . And the damage is added to herald of ice explosions too. -immune to chill with two of them is nice. " Haha, that's a good idea, I could switch to dreamfeather couldn't I? I'm even wearing this belt currently tee hee hee, bosses are just wailing at my ranger hitting air at level 52. And even though my character sheet reads 44% chance to crit with the other 20% and assasin's mark it FEELs like 90% crit rate. Everything is shattering and freezing and exploding. It's cool to see you suggest dreamfeather because I never would have thought of it. This game has gotten to the point where I don't think any single human being can keep all these uniques and their intereactions in mind when coming up with a build. Deadeye very underrated I think. Oh yeah my current setup: I removed the Increased Critical STrikes gem because as I said the crit rate seems pretty good without it and I added freezing pulse, just to test it out. The idea being that if I use the threshold jewels with it, that it will deal +100% damage once I start shattering things - which is basically all the time. I think that means it will also double the added damage from the rings. Last edited by BearCares#6660 on Feb 9, 2018, 7:11:35 PM

1.) Don't Cast on Crit both Unearth and Cremation. Or Unearth, Cremation, and Freezing Pulse. I get it, leveling character, but you have literally zero damage support gems in this set-up. Cremation isn't good for CoC anyways. One CoC'd spell, and then supports for it.
2.) Given the objective of using Tasalio's Sign as a huge source of flat damage, you're going to be wanting to scale action speed. CoC is bad at this, but all right, we can work with that. Go with Freezing Pulse (and attendant thresh jewels) as your CoC spell, since it gets 125% damage effectiveness and thus enjoys flat damage. It's a projectile and thus benefits from Powerful Precision's crit bonuses, Fast and Deadly improves projectile speed and damage so Freezing Pulse has much better coverage, Rupture can proc off the crappy physical damage from Widowmaker and improve your crit multi and crit chance against bleeding critters, both of which benefit Freezing Pulse as well. For Ascendancy 4 you can grab either Far Shot or Ricochet as you like, neither is critical to the build. I'd likely go with Ricochet myself, since FP does butt for Far Shot-y damage anyways and this way Lightning Strike can poke more things and generate more potential crits/flat-damage bounces for you. Also means you've got 45% standing freeze chance even without crit against stuff in your faceregion - 10% per Tasalio's and 25% innate to Freezing Pulse. Nice backup for when the Pulse doesn't crit for you. 3.) Since all the damage comes from Freezing Pulse anyways, you can continue using Widowmaker to try and amp up crit chance/multi. Might even want to dualie them - then you get +300% crit chance against nearby full-health targets instead of 200% to try and guarantee that first pack-clearing Cast on Crit proc, and 80% extra global crit multi instead of 40%. Dagger damage is immaterial; you can try and pump it but unless you're looking specifically for an expensive higher-level dagger later rather than Widowmakers, you won't get worthwhile deeps from the shiv. Maybe enough damage to sustain mana with Soul Raker, but certainly not enough damage for life leech to be viable sans Warlord's Mark. Which, by the way, might be an excellent choice for Blasphemy curse. 4.) Point Blank. Get it, use it, love it. Freezing Pulse wants to be lodged in buttcracks anyways to maximize projectile damage, so may as well double down on that. 5.) Get lots of flat cold to spells on Abyss jewels. Lightpoacher fixes all damage problems for clearing, Tombfist w/Searching Eye (get life, then either global crit or flat cold to attacks on the Searching Eye) Maims for free offa Lightning Strike and thus stacks more slows on enemies, and Darkness Enthroned is a very underrated piece of kit. Take merciless advantage of that 125% damage effectiveness on Freezing Pulse while Abyss jewels are easy to get. 6.) Realize this build is still probably going to suck compared to a regular clearmonster character. But it will make semi-effective use of Tasalio's Sign, works-ish for your Skin of the Loyal (Lightning Strike > Cast on Crit > Cold Pen > Hypothermia > Freezing Pulse > Empower), and would be hipster enough to giggle over whilst probably being effective enough to not hate. @1453R
I don't really understand how Cast on Crit works. Whether 3 spells or 1 spell casts faster or not. It's hard to tell. But I like Cremation because I believe when it crits all of its hits continually crit and it's possible to get multiple of them stacked on each other repeatedly criting. Still, I don't really know how it works but I'll want to look that up. Point Blank shouldn't work with spells it's only for Attack Hits. But yeah, I was going to take Point Blank anyways. This is the funnest character I've made this league. I've done a lot of little tricks that I've never done before like using True Talent unique jewel, which is actually extremely good! Even the +7% movespeed from ranger starting area makes the build feel soooo much better! Not to mention scion's +25 all atrributes and shadow's .5% crit. |
