Honestly fuck these loot boxes.

Allowing for MTX to be traded would devalue them immensely. Look at the steam market prices for an item compared to buying it directly from valve in games like dota. We are talking like 500-1000% cheaper.
Any kind of restrictions on the trading of MTX just creates a black market. |

actually it would be more cool if something more tangible can pop out of these loot boxes....
something like kaom heart, or windripper, or mirror, or that chandran sword, or some 6 link shit or something like that... they can even increase the price to 200 or 300 or 500 or 1000 or even more if they want to... it would be so cool. :) 34pre98qua

U.S. Senator asking ESRB to change game rating process in regard to loot boxes.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/02/15/us-senator-asking-esrb-to-change-game-rating-process-on-regard-to-loot-boxes "A game IS supposed to waste your time but it's not supposed to make you FEEL like you're wasting your time:
It's supposed to make you WANT to waste your time." |

" https://kotaku.com/after-months-of-controversy-esrb-will-add-in-game-purc-1823356171 ESRB will be on the lootboxes! Hope it actually does something in this game as well. I remember buying this boxes the very first time they were implemented in the guise of some saints day and figured these were straight up gambling tactics. Posted it here back then and there was legion of fanbois defending . I will never understand ggg's decision to promote such an unhealthy decision for profit . But then again watching streamers makes me realise just how much people lack impulse control when there are streamers who spend well over 100$ , guess its the my money i spend it however i like rule .
Funny i remember how the oni goroshi guy was defending them by saying i wouldn't complain if i got duplicates of those expensive acid scorpions and here he is at it back again. Duplicates should not exists or at the least tradeable . It makes me wonder if i would be throwing away my money too if i had more disposable income at hand since poe itself is pretty much gambling unless you trade. Its really hard to see my own fault here it seems. chaotic neutral

" That would be a step in the right direction. The first part is governments need to declare the boxes are gambling. Once they are considered gambling (which they obviously are) they will have to regulate them. Video game developers are going to lobby hard to prevent this. Hopefully they will lose and governments will regulate this properly. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/04/video-game-loot-boxes-are-now-considered-criminal-gambling-in-belgium/ Great article about it. I think this is a great first step. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/24/business/loot-boxes-video-games.html "A bill introduced in Minnesota on Monday would prohibit the sale of video games with loot boxes to people younger than 18 and require a stern warning: “This game contains a gambling-like mechanism that may promote the development of a gaming disorder that increases the risk of harmful mental or physical health effects, and may expose the user to significant financial risk.”" US courts have been going back and forth on the matter. Mostly it is an issue of whether or not the items you get are "things of value". https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/loot-box-latest-big-fish-casino-decision-reversed-us-sebastian/ "Gambling is mainly regulated by state law in the US. However, like many other jurisdictions around the globe, gambling from a legal perspective requires (i) a game of chance, (ii) a stake and (iii) a prize. If these three conditions are met, the relevant game most likely qualifies as regulated gambling. However, so far loot box-like mechanisms and/or virtual casinos were unlikely to fall under current US gambling laws due to several US court decisions. " Most arpgs are all about the feeling you get when loot drops and finding something good. I think that is why a lot of people play these kinds of games even if they don't realize it. I think it fine because it is fun and there are worse ways to spend your time. I like GGG a lot because they provide us with this awesome game. They do loot boxes more ethically than most companies but they are still just as bad as most because they are using gambling to make money off of people that don't even realize they are gambling and because children are gambling. I can't really blame them for doing it since it is how a lot of people are doing it right now. I just look forward to the day where gambling boxes are banned from games or regulated as gambling. Stuff is moving in the right direction so hopefully it will happen in the next few years. I do wish they would stop selling these gambling boxes. |
