" He is an idiot. Graphisms are nice. Cool. Great. Fuck the graphism, there are useless compared to a HIGH FPS, not having FPS pikes, etc... Standard : BratalUss

" The weather effects isn't bothering me,its people's builds with massive ammount of particles. I think those are great if people's comp can handle it, but it doesn't have to be rendered on my clientside. |

Gotta necro this thread. Now that 1.0 is live, let's remind GGG that many of us are considering downloading a bannable third-party hack to tone down the particle effects so we can maintain a playable framerate.
Reminds me a bit of when I used D2 maphack for my Amazon because the original 640x480 field of view was so nerf for bow users. Once LoD was released, everyone got 800x600 D2, and I didn't want the maphack anymore. I guess a bunch of us could get together and make alternate accounts, run the particle hack on those, and see how often it's detected, you know, to evaluate the ban risk to main account. Because seriously. We can't see wtf is going on. Might as well risk a ban, considering many of us can't play normally regardless. Yes there are other workarounds. Only solo, 2-man teams, never roll Multiproj on a map that contains Fireball monsters, never invite SpiderSpork/MSLS/Summoner into party, run 3-man groups [since even the enduring cry effect, which prettymuch everyone uses, also tanks FPS], Overclock the CPU, overclock the GPU, set texture_quality to 7, run in 800x600, close your operating system and boot PoE from DOS, sacrifice a stashtab full of exalts to the RNG gods (in hope of earning their favor long enough to get you that level up before you BSOD from the unusually heavy load this game puts on your high-end gaming machine)... anyway, I could go on. Point is. Give us low settings. |

GGG possible response 1: The problem is on your end
Doooon't even start with that about our video drivers and your test machines. There are far, far too many people dealing with bad framerate on good machines. We know it's on your end, GGG. GGG possible response 2: It would cause game balance issues Balance issue? What about he fact that for many of us, a GMP fireball onscreen = 5fps? In D2 the botters/multiboxers topped the season ladders. In PoE, will ladder position rely on how expensive your computer is? You didn't make this game to sell computers, did you? It's supposed to run on a good variety of machines? Right. {Allow me to take this opportunity to note how hilarious it is that Spider-Spork is one of the more troublesome effects, meaning that there is essentially a "pay-to-frustrate-your-partymates" microtransaction effect available in the GGG shop.} Yes, lowering visual clutter makes it easier to play. StarcraftII pros run low settings so that they can keep track of their units. Mechwarrior2 Had an "image enhancement" mode that removed all textures and showed only wireframes. ![]() I don't think it's a serious infraction to balance that one may choose between pretty lights and visual clarity. Besides, we haven't even made it that far yet. We're still having pretty lights forced upon us, playability be damned. |

" ^This is dodging the issue. Players aren't asking for something that makes it easier to see. They aren't even asking for something that makes it easier to play. They're just asking for it to be possible to play in the first place. When monster health bars were added to the game, the "atmosphere" of the game was changed, and now, monsters are much easier to spot. I'm no programmer, but I imagine it can't be that hard. Ask any number of players which effects give them the most trouble, and you're likely to hear similar things from all of them. Those effects which cause the most slowdown need to have some sort of low-resource option. It can't be that hard. Take Street Fighter II Turbo for instance. The original SF2 had slowdown when spamming multiple hadokens. This meant that you had to time your inputs with the slowdown of the game, so that you could throw a hadoken at the earliest possible frame. Turbo somehow removed the slowdown. Since it was a game cartridge, it could have been a hardware upgrade. Either way, a game maker noticed specific actions slowing down their game, and corrected it. It's not unreasonable to ask that you do something similar here. Is there room in your game code for 2d sprites? I'd love to see some nice, old-fashioned, opaque sprites if it meant maintaining framerate. Seriously. Even if the sprites blocked view of combat. I'm less likely to rip when blinded than when immobilized, anyway. Besides, there's gonna be griefing with this sort of thing. Can you imagine? Pay a fee to enter some high-end map group, maybe the title says "no laggy skills" or something. Then, just as the boss fight starts, start using all of the laggiest skills, all at once. Sit back and laugh while people lose their characters for not upgrading their computers. Heck, we did it in D2. If there was a foreigner in your game and you wanted to kick them, all you had to do was spam some symbols in the chat box and they'd be dropped from game. So you see, if anything, having no option to lower the effects IS the balance issue. |

After running a 70 map with several players who were using various spells with multiple projectiles, storm call, combined with the constant casting of enduring cry and decoy totems, I would have very much liked an opportunity to turn the spell effects down. I couldn't complete the map for fear of dying, I could see literally nothing that was happening.
The spell effects are all cool, but having the option would be awesome. |

I don't have a good computer but I don't have a terrible one either...I have 40-50 FPS in town standing still...one person runs by me BOOM 20 fps? what the hell is that? all cuz he bought some glowing stuff from shop. Why hasn't ggg responded to this thread. I agree with everyone here. Give us an option to lower or completely take off the particle effects. GGG if you arn't aware yet but im sure you are people are using 3rd party programs to do just this. Why? cuz you won't do it yourself. You have been out for quite a while now and still no changes? BTW banning people for wanting to play your game not to mention who put money into your game just because they are trying to make the game more playable without screen freezes and then instant deaths due to all the skill spamming from summoners and other huge spell casters is completely and utterly retarded. It isn't like they are exploiting the game with a maphack or making non stop unique drops...they are improving their game performance. Even people with the $2-3k plus comps are having problems with particle effects...how is this not noticeable to you guys. I was a big D2 fan and I'll be the first to say that PoE should have been the sequal to D2 LOD instead of that crap game D3. Blizz's new devs totally effed that game up and took away what the game was supposed to be. I love PoE but even with my mid range comp I can't handle all the fps drops just cuz someone runs past me in town standing still or spams a bunch of AoE spells that blind the hell out of me. IF GGG doesn't address this issue I regretfully say that I will probably stop playing the game because all they care about is just making money off of the micro transactions. Which honestly I don't blame them, but as I said earlier banning people for using 3rd party apps to make there game "PLAYABLE" not to "EXPLOIT" is complete BS. I myself am afraid to even try a 3rd party app.
GGG give us a response. You can give us an option to reduce skill effects while maintaining the rain and dark/smokey atmosphere in vall dungeons and other map areas. Since this forum post has been on for quite sometime and they haven't even given a simple response just goes to show you my first point and that was that they don't care about the playability of the common players. I'm about to uninstall this game and never play a GGG based game ever again. |
