Prismatic Gem Sockets

Hybrid Gem and Prismatic Gem sockets sound like a cool idea

I think that's a really nice idea.
Also it would decrease the whining about the colour bias of the sockets a bit. XD

Often you can do many things with the sockets you have, even if you have to use quite some orbs for them. However, sometimes you could socket it a bit different and more efficient if only this one socket would be red. Well, only the one socket isn't exactly an option with chromatic orbs.

Such a system could just get rid of this problem.

Also it would allow some new type of perfect gear that you can craft, or waste all your orbs trying to do so.
Imagine a high level Armour;Energy Shield helmet with 4 connected prismatic sockets.
You will never have to use an orb of chromatic on this thing again, no matter which character will use it.

I guess such items would be some of the most valuable in the game, even in a white state.

this sounds like a good idea
OP Great Idea!!

This would actually open a lot of doors.

With "Prismatic" sockets this could lead to Rare or even Unique gems.

These gems would then only be able to be placed in a "Prismatic" socket.

Just like armour and weapons, rare and unique skill or passive gems is the next progression. IMO.

Gems are items in POE so why not allow them to have higher rarity.

Adding "Prismatic" sockets would allow this to happen.

Side note: Adding a new currency which could turn sockets into a "Prismatic" would be nice.
No need to change how Chromatics work.

Very cool! Makes me wonder the possibilities!

What I'd do if I decided everything:
* Introduce prismatic sockets as OP described. These would be golden in color.
* Also introduce hyrbid sockets. These would fade from one color to another and allow either of those color gems, but not the third color.

Odds for single-stat pieces:
192/341 (56.30%) on color
64/341 (18.77%) off color #1
64/341 (18.77%) off color #2
8/341 (2.35%) on-off hybrid #1
8/341 (2.35%) on-off hybrid #2
4/341 (1.17%) off-off hybrid
1/341 (0.29%) prismatic

Odds for double-stat pieces:
128/341 (37.54%) on color #1
128/341 (37.54%) on color #2
64/341 (18.77%) off color
12/341 (3.52%) on-on hybrid
4/341 (1.17%) on-off hybrid #1
4/341 (1.17%) on-off hybrid #2
1/341 (0.29%) prismatic

Signed

cool idea

but yah just make them rare

and maybe even with increasing rarity if there is already one on the item

so like

.1% chance

but if one rolls

then theres a .05% chance at the next one

cuz

if you get max radness

that might be too rad
Holy cow!
