"I know that every time I post in a performance thread I get an inbox full of angry and sarcastic replies, but I do want to add some info here!
The only effect that changing texture quality has is reducing the RAM usage of textures. Each number halves it. So the difference between High and Normal is big, but setting it to 20 vs 5 saves almost nothing. It also has minimal (if any) effect on frame rate.
(For those technical people interested, it controls what mip level is sampled).
Edit: I will look into the inability to change the settings that is reported. This may be Monday before we have an answer though - people worked very hard the last few days so I'm keen for almost everyone to rest tomorrow."
