there is very little actual one shots in this game. volatile's removal has been one of the most important changes in recent POE's history. because it trully removed the BS from the game

the so called 'one shots' are nothing more than 'i have no mitigation, no avoidance, no clue and look im dead now!' case. each and every one.

exploding porcupines? oh look, Kaom's Roots.. so each and every hit connects.
narrow doorway VS 20 constructs with multi proj? oops.. bad judgement
bearers? gfx vomit and watching movies (im guilty of that as well - but i do not moan nor call it one shot)
overextending, tackling content with 'oh, how bad could it be' mindset, overreliance on flasks

and my fav - calling build with 4 defensive nodes 'tanky' just because it has vaal pact

Dead man do no damage so maybe the stupid 'XYZ mil DPS' PoB race ends and people start asking questions about survivability.

note: you can do guardians on 5k HP without vaal pact - armour and evasion (or well picked purity of X for phoenix) really can mean a difference between being a winner and a residue.

seeing players with all 5 offensive flasks that complain about 'but teh gem too hard!'.. priceless
Vaal pact doesnt protect you from one shots it protects you from two shots+.

I get where you're coming from, but I can't fully agree. I have a Raider that I use for clearing breaches. She has 5.4k life, IR, 39k armour with flasks up, 4 end charges, Soul of Lunaris for up to 8% phys res, 22% attack dodge (27% if hit recently from soul of Master of the Blade) and 10% spell dodge, and she reliably freezes everything up to and including rares and rogue exiles within Cyclone range. And with all that, I'm genuinely worried if she'll be able to do breaches after the nerf, because I've seen what my life pool is doing in high tier maps.

I really really hope GGG don't just nerf VP and go "deal with it lol", because the entire game has been balanced around instant leech.

But then of course you still have instant logouts...
Yeah logging is the real joke, most people don't use a macro but the game gets balanced around using one and the only reason anyone can argue for the use of one is the shitty state of the servers that never seem to get any better.

if your life pool jumps up and down drop IR. do not underestimate the power of evasion. even my totem dudes run at least some of it

btw stibnite is NOT an auto pick. 50% blind is cool but the cloud size is small and mobs can easily leave it giving you nothing. jade on the other hand just feeds the IR

IR and US were always 'traps' imo

I disagree. US (or let's better say Kaom's roots) + IR can trivialize most phys damage with minimal investment. All you need is a granite and jade flask. In HSC I was surprised how good that combo is.
that phys damage you 'trivialize' bites you in the ass once it is agumented/converted with elements.

plus you eat your own reflect 100% of the time

IR and US are well designed keystones because the drawbacks (and these are harsh) are not obvious yet very very build impacting in the long run

not being able to evade attacks (US/Kaom's Roots) is a suicide in some cases. fav example - porcupines. pop them all at once in a 'extra X% damage as lightning' and you are done

Stibnite + IR work well but only for stationary face-hug melee characters (50% evasion from blind) but once you leave the cloud - you are pretty much dead

each time i tried builds with 0 evasion it was the same 'life down, life up, life down, life up' playstyle i do not really like. add in 30-40% chance to evade and it is all smooth sailing

10k AR or 30k AR is not that much of a PRACTICAL difference, 5% (base) or 40% evasion is night and day

You're right. Multiple layers of defense will always be superior to one massive layer. That's been the case for several years now. Never put your eggs in one basket.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.
