Make the game hard, not tedious

I agree with all you stated, excpet this section
Monsters don't reset

slowly chewing down monsters sometimes is my only option other than dieing, but I guess if portals autoopened on those levels and I didnt lose as much xp that would be ok lol

For example, after completing Normal, you could offer the player a single full respec

Bad because it can be abused. You can make a fast, safe leveling build, and then respec into the unique build you want, rather than having to stick to your unique build from the start. Also, if rolling a new character is "tedious and outdated" then this is not the game for you.

glad im not the only one who thinks this. +1.
Some noob always complaining... hoping things get better.

I don't agree with this, primarily because it's actually really hard to make a build that will be good later that truly "struggles" in normal, and normal is pretty easy anyways. Even the Summoner, who pretty much gets the dick for the first 30-odd levels, isn't going to have *that* hard of a time making it through normal - I certainly didn't, and my build is far from ideal. And almost no matter how bad your build, you should be able to burn through normal in under a week. So what's the point? This "abuse" hardly qualifies, if you ask me. Sure, it's a *possible* abuse (and part of why when I agreed, I recommended that instead, you only offer this to the first 1-3 characters a player gets to that point), but is it really that big a deal?

We estimate that it will take most players between 8-12 hours to complete the first playthrough of the game on Normal difficulty. From there, with the ramping challenge, it may take more than double that time to complete the game on Cruel difficulty. When players reach Merciless difficulty, they may find that their progress slows considerably, especially if they are heavily undergeared, or, more commonly, they've designed their character in a sub-optimal manner. We fully intend for players to reroll multiple characters, it's all part of the learning process.

That's GGG's mantra.

They want people to play the game. Finding out your character sucks is kinda sad. But that's also why you should be open to rolling new characters.

As far as all of the death suggestions go... Why? Can we please stop comparing the game to Diablo? Death should be incredibly meaningful. It should absolutely be painful. Many many of the players here play hardcore because they don't like to have a second chance at all. If you're so interested in staying alive, I think you should put your focus into staying alert and staying careful, not into your dps.

For those of you that are struggling with your builds, why not put some topics up in the forums? If you're having trouble surviving the later levels, it's very very likely that your build just doesn't work the way you wanted to.

If GGG made the game "less tedious", it would do nothing but to subvert the sense of accomplishment that we get from playing the game and doing well.

I, personally, think that all of you should roll hardcore characters. None of your complaints apply to us at all.

Because there are competitive races where such a respec would skew the result of the race. If one build is fastest for levels 1-30 but another is fastest from 30-40, then that is very good to promote diversity since racers would have to choose which strategy they want. This respec idea throws that out the window since everyone would use the first build for 1-30 and then respec to the other for 30-40.

Sure you can just disallow the respec for races, but the fact that there's a situation where it needs to be disabled really brings to me to question whether GGG's programmer (who, again, is already overloaded with all sorts of work) should spend time on this.

That's not the only issue. Having one respec in the game is going to drive away players (like me) who want character permanence. That's ok as long as the newbs are happy right? The thing is, they won't be happy. There's going to be people who use their respec and still end up with a terrible build. What do we do when they demand a second respec? Then a third? You can't please everyone with either extreme, sure, but taking the middle ground makes everyone unhappy.
