Why are the resistances capped?

Hello guys,

i don't understand why the resistances' cap has to be 75%.
Technically, i could be able to reach 100% resistance on an element by using a specific build.
I can understand that by the end of act V my resistances are downed by 30%, because i receive a curse from Kitava. Same thing goes at the end of act X.
Why can i reach 100% resistance ONLY by using a specific build? The game is based more on the skill we choose to use than on the class itself, so why do i have to be forced to use a specific build to achieve 100% resistance?
I just wanna know WHY the resistances are capped to 75%, just why?
The game is already balanced, so why?

If you had 100 % resistance against Fire, Cold, Lightning, Chaos and Physical Reduction, what would do any damage?

there was a build with 100% elemental resistances and 100% physical imunity. He didn't take any damage. So they nerfed flasks because of it.
Because it is balanced around having a certain amount, there are stuff that has penetration, but it is easier to do it this way.

I understand that's for balancing purpose, and i get that's the way GGG wanted it.
I'm new to PoE, and i really appreciated how they "explained" to me why my resistances lowered 30%, twice (Kitava cursed me). Or even the old way, where you manually change difficulty and you know you're gonna have negative effects, like in any other (or most of them at least) ARPG. But i would've liked to have some sort of explaination, even absurd, as to why the resistances are capped at 75%.
There is a cap because 100% is quite easy to reach, and immunity is a bit much.
It's at 75% because Diablo II Did It First, as Charan accurately recalls.
