Pewdiepie using the N word during a stream

This is what happens when you make something socially taboo. Certain personality types don't care and will actually challenge social taboos.

I remember awhile back, there was a player on PoE who complained about getting their character's name changed, and the name was something like Niggardly Monk. Some snowflake reported it because it sounds like the other word, even though it has a different meaning.

I agree calling it the "N word" just gives it more power lol

its like he who shall not be named!

its cartoonish and stupid
I dont see any any key!
Felix is a swede from sweden.
English is not his native language.
He's just a dude in his room playing games, and letting millions of people watch him.

Just because he does speak english well, that doesn't make him responsible for what he says the same way a native american or british person would be for dropping the N bomb.

He's not running for office, doesn't have a following, just a lot of fans who like his shit,
he doesn't owe anyone anything. If you don't like what he does or says, you can simply switch to something else.

He has full rights to express himself no matter who gets upset or how bad.
If he was to say [Removed by Support],
then his audience would react to it, by either leaving or staying, liking or disliking him.
It's still his right to say whatever he wants and people have the right to get triggered, and that's as far as it goes. Who gives a fuck about your feelings, nobody.

He didn't break the law, didn't incite people to get violent irl or cause any real harm.
If you are anything but a white privileged male, and you think magical words can put you down just "cus muh feelingz" then you've already lost before the game even started, and everyone is laughing at you for being a [Removed by Support] who breaks from words.
If the words are lies meant to offend you, they only work if you let them hurt you.

Now about the legal side:
YouTube (google) provides the service, their platform, so technically they could shut Felix down,
and they probably will do so if he keeps dropping more bombs causing him to get enough strikes.
But are they though? Going to really close his accounts? One of their top ad revenue generator?
Are they? I doubt it. They just put up a PR show by slapping him on the wrist as if they cared about justice and high morale, to calm the advertisers and audience and keep them raking up views.

If Felix was a total nobody, poor guy, sitting in a bar having a beer, in walks a black guy and he goes "Fucking N word", everyone would just sigh and give him that "hey not cool man" look and go on with their night. But for some reason because he has 57 mill subs some people think he has some responsibilities like a spokesman or president... wrong. He's just some fucking dude, shooting the shit with his buddies while gaming, and letting others listen to him while doing so.
He LET'S you watch him. You CHOOSE to watch him. You don't like him? Leave.

Anyone complaining about his N words, or [Removed by Support] slang, do you honestly suggest that mere words can control others, and cause them to do harm to others, like remote controlled idiot robots?

he does have a following, they are called "bros". he has a "bro army". those are people who are a bit more than just fans, equivalent to a 13 y/o girl obsessed with Justin Bieber (Beliebers) in 2012.
rawr. fear me.

Context doesn't matter anymore. If you say n***er, then you are a racist. If you use a nazi salute, then you are a nazi. It's getting ridiculous. You can easily lose your job for using those words or making a joke, even if you didn't mean anything by it.
the vast majority of those contexts are hateful contexts. Calling someone a N because you died in a video game is certainly hateful use of the word.

Doing a nazi salute is a huge disrespect to jews if used as a joke and it's hateful if used with actual meaning. If someone went and said "hahaha, your family was gassed and your people killed by the hundred thousands and I find that hilarious", you wouldn't be infuriated? I'd punch the guy in the face.

Errr no? Friends say it all the time and they're not even remotely racist. People use the term all the time it doesn't mean they're fucking racist in terms of the video game community.

Has it ever occurred to you that this is evil?

No they aren't. You just assume that they are because you want to be offended and have someone to go after.

In the vast majority of cases it's used in or as a joke, or means something entirely different. Felix used it in-place of "asshole". What he was trying to say is "that asshole". It had absolutely nothing to do with race and hate.

Depends on the context. There is a huge difference between making a nazi/holocaust joke and wishing death on someone or enjoying someone elses suffering. Just because you have no humor doesn't mean that the guy who made the joke is a racist and a hateful person. It's also kinda funny how quickly you resort to violence. Too much hate in you, bro.

It doesn't matter how hateful they are in thought anyway, it only matters how hateful they are in deed, and whether they represent a threat of becoming so.

Let's keep in mind that the context here is faerwin proudly getting triggered into initiating physical violence, not by a threat of physical violence, but by someone laughing at the way his/her ancestors were murdered. That's clearly advocacy of violence against nonviolent speech, assuming no reasonable insinuation of a threat to copycat such genocide in the future.

It does mean that they perceive the word as a negative thing, as if being black is a negative trait. They are probably not doing it consciously but it's a subconscious way of thinking most likely due to exposure from actual racists.

The point is, normalization of racist slurs only serves as a way to minimize and eventually accept their use. This eventually lead to the belief that maybe, just maybe, these slurs are there for a real reason and here comes actual racist views. We saw it with middle eastern immigrants and muslisms. It happened with japaneses during world war 2, it happened with vietnameses during vietnam and it will keep happening.

Normalization of racial slurs is the first step towards spreading racism.

I'll always stand against racism.
