So! First of all: I play on XBox ONE, my first Game of this kind was Diablo 3 and English is not my native langugage, and i am on Act III of my first playthourgh and i want to start a discussion, what could go wrong?!
Path of Exile is a game of complexity. And this is good. Even i was some kind of bored with Diablo 3 after played it for several hundred hours, so i was really lucky that Path of Exiles has come for my platform. And i like to play it, but i have some problems with it and i am NOT here to just say my opinion and say that it is the only truth. No. I will show them to this reddit and hope to change my opinions.
So, like i said: Path of Exile is a Game of complexity. And this is good. Complexity can be both: Good or bad. It is good if it gives the player more abilitys to play, more things to do and support him. One example is the skilltree of PoE, or like i said the "Skillforest."
You have thousands of skills and ways to define your character to your play style and this is awesome. For new players it can be overwhelming and to complex, but it is the good way of Compley. The other Thing is the inventory, this is the bad way of complexity. With the real small space you can carry 3-6 Items and have to go back to town. But why? Why is the inventory so limited?
The main thing of Games like this is the loot. You will earn better Gear and in PoE you even need the normal stuff to get the right scrolls to identify the good stuff and with a small inventory like this, the Gameflow get interrupted. I mean, yeah: I can easily port to town because i have always enough scrolls for teleportation, but is the Inventory really so small or did i just missed something?
And the scrolls is something i want to talk about too. I have always at least 40 Scrolls in my inventory, so the teleportation is no problem (Except for the Gameflow-Interruption), why do they exist? It is no big deal at all but why don't handle them like the heal-flasks. Unlimited of use, but with a cooldown. That would make the thing a bit easier.
My Mainproblem is the lack of explanation. The Game is a lot different from Diablo 3. Like the greater Loot-Chest, where enemy spawns when you activate them. You can pay some kind of currency for special effects but which currency? I always klick through my whole inventory to find the right thing. Sometimes i can use Scrolsl of Wisdom one time, sometimes several times. Thats just one thing that did not explained.
Complexity can be both: Good and bad. Diablo 3 has neither good or bad complexity and this is a major flaw. Path of Exile has both kind of complexity: It gives you complex ways of playing the game and define your character but also forces you to break the gameflow and forces you to do thing you want not to do.
So these are some points i wanted to talk about and hope they don't get put in to the "Hater" pile, because i love the game and will play it on, but it could be a much better game at all!
(P.S: Are there any kind of Lore-Fans around? Is there an entire universe in PoE?)

The Portal gem isn't exactly a game changer, because you give up one slot just for portalling. As far as possible, you want to use every possible slot either for defence or offence. Not to mention, portal scrolls are plenty, and usage is manageable. It's the scrolls of wisdom I feel they should have a free town identify for. It's really not necessary, and not fun, to persist in having pick up scrolls, identify things one by one, and god forbid, run out of wisdom scrolls.

Yeah and like i said i have at least 40 Portal-Scrolls to use.

What about second weapon slot? Mostly being used for either gaining some charges or for leveling gems. Concerning Scrolls of Wisdom, this is a ARPG after all.

Welcome, Exile! It's great to see the earnest reactions from a truly new player, and from Xbox no less. Thank you for taking the time to give your perspective and thoughts.
Yes, the inventory is really small. This is on purpose. You are meant to be very selective with what you pick up and what you leave behind. Learning the recipes should help you there.
Despite GGG's recent efforts to make the game more accessible via the in-game reference system, there's still a lot that remains unexplained, as you have discovered. The wiki to which I have linked is something most players keep open while playing (I'd say many of us have two screens). I know this can be a bother when you're playing on a console but it really is your best resource.
Speaking of, I am something of a lore fan, although I don't claim to be an expert. Now and then a thread will pop up discussing the lore but honestly, if you read all the items in game, all the clickable lore objects, you'll start to get a feel for how deep the worldbuilding really is. This is something of a cheat sheet for all the lore and history. It's FULL of spoilers so be very careful. :)
Thanks for the answer. The recipes will help me a lot and the wiki will be my first source if i need help.
I am a big Lore-Fan. It starts with Elder Scrolls and i am always searching for other Lores and i loved that the Texts in the Game are all with Voice-Over. I start to hear the ingame-Objects and read the item before i search the Lore-Wiki.
