Achievements in PoE
What do you think about providing achievements to the game ? It provides more fun, competition to others and encourage people to play more :) I m not achievement big fan but I found myself few times that I was playing the game just to get some achievement or some specific achievement my best friend dint had :) Players LOVE to be rewarded (especially cRPG hack&slash players) with things – nice drop, xp, and achievements are this kind of reward too ! (it doesn't change the game but gives additional fun and excitement)
Achievement would be associated to account not with single character but that I think its obvious. It could be divided in groups PvP, PvE and so on, similar to what we have seen in Starcraft II. If you could compare you achievement with others it would be gorgeous or like on steam just to see how much % of players had this achievement - when you have some rare or hard to get achievement you feel very rewarded. You can even group achievements by gilds or something (like % of members that have this and that achievement, something like guild profile page). It could even become guild recruitment requirement to have specific achievement. Some of achievement could be linked with micros like “We are Greedy” buy anything from shop :), perform a special taunt in PvP, or dye your armor etc.) For example Torchlight on steam, they had some quite good achievement ideas. Let me know how do you like this idea ? This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

One thing that LotR did was have achievement titles. So if you didn't die for 18 levels you got a special title. You could change your title whenever you wanted to by picking from titles you had earned.
Little things like that do add to a game. Titles as a reward for winning a league might be nice. "XXX League Champion" Muzzi! |

I don't really mind achievements, I know a lot of people are into them. But it's gotten to the point where there's so many of them per game and so many of them are pointless that I just don't pay attention to them. It all feels like homework to me. Last time I cared about achievements was GoldenEye.

As long as there are achievements you have to work on that don't relate just to playing through the game. Those ones like chapter x-y completed are just silly, everyone will have those achievements by going through the game 1 time.
Should have ones like 'Gib x number of enemies in 1 hit' or 'level x number of skill gems from lvl 1 to max' can have multiple layers of them like borderlands, 10 gems, 100 gems, 1000 gems, 10000 gems |

iv never got the hang of this archievement stuff.
This game will offer alot of Grind (good grind) to improve ur character with equiqment, gems etc. I dont need archievements as another reason to grind for something that does not mean anything or maybe a useless title. titles for league winners and such are nice, but please no archievements like *grind 1 million of this* or that gem stuff. In Short, Archievements are for games that lack real content and just waste development time. (as little as it might be) |

the only time achievements/titles matter is when they grant stats/abilities/stuff . --- .

Please no achievements.
Each level up is an achievement for the player. It's much better than doing something we dont care just to be cool. | |
" Actually, the original idea of "achievement" was "silly challenges you wouldn't bother with normally", like for example in L4D2, at the dark carnival campaign, go to the shooting-stall, beat that mini-game, and carry that worthless gnome with you for the rest of the trip even though it has no value at all. The only reward is an achievement. They're challenges for the sole purpose of creating possible goals for players that want more of a challenge out of a game. They add a heap of replay-ability to the game to people who are getting bored with it. And as long as the achievement are not "kill x" or "make x progress", they will probably do so. |

sry that i bring back this thread from the ground but i think a good achievements system is something nice to have.
And with achievements i don't understand that you simply kill 1000 enemies with your blaster and become the title "master of disaster with a blaster" or something like that. Instead of titles i think you should get some kind of realt benefit. A game which did that was Mythos and i think it worked really well. You can for example open some achievement slots (for example one for every 10 or 20 levels) where a player can put an achievemenn he achieved via drag and drop. And every achievement provides something, this could range from +x% damage against undeads for killing x skeletons or +x% potion effecitveness after you healed yourself with x potions to some real nice things like a damaging aura for something real hard to do (for example killing a boss without using a potion in the whole dungeon) This can also be combined with the real cool and innovative league system, as you can get some achievements with real cool benefits only by winning such an event... Just imagine the possibilies! |

In my opinion achievements are awesome.I mean they often are useless, but it's kinda nice to have something to play towards to.Like already said different titles for killing a decent amount of enemies while running through the game. Not a special type just the overall amount - it's just a raw example. Those are things that are nice to look at after 2-3 months of gameplay you got like a thousand monster kills and so on.Just something next to storyline and quests that adds replayability.
He withdrew, himself wounded, and was compelled to return home inglorious, weeping - he who had once vainly hoped for the glory of a triumph.
