Again, it doesn't matter what any of you think. Sure, you can speak your opinions, and yes, it's really good, and entertaining in some instances(pedo bear, tisk tisk), to hear them, but in the end, it doesn't matter. The surge in jsp usage is mainly, at least currently, because the lack of a secure and reliable trade system in the game. No matter what, jsp will always be active, it's unavoidable, however, having a trade system that actually facilitates trade, instead of punishing it(which is basically what the current system does) will help the problem tenfold. I'm not saying that this is how it will be in the final build, because obviously the trade system hasn't been implemented, but currently, that's how it is.
Think about it this way. Even if jsp does stop, even if the leaders of the website, for whatever reason, stopped supporting PoE, there would be 10 more websites that pop up, offering the same thing as jsp does, but without the addition of reliable traders(for the most part), and an option to do it without buying forum gold with real money. In all mmos, arpg or not, there are dozens of websites that sell gold, or whatever currency is in the game. With the hype that PoE has, no doubt that X amount of time after open beta, the same thing will happen with it. The good things about jsp are that you don't HAVE to buy forum gold with real money, there are RELIABLE and TRUSTED traders there that have proven they are both reliable and trustworthy, and it facilitates a standard-istic system of which PoE doesn't currently have. Yes, it sucks that people can get in game items with real money, but guess what, it's closed beta. There WILL be a wipe before open beta. Maybe more than one. That's been confirmed by the devs, and is also posted on the website, so all the people who are currently buying things with money are wasting their money, because in X amount of months, it'll all be gone anyways. I'm surprised you guys are complaining at all. I mean, you've got developers who not only started off with their own money, and took the risk to develop a game for people, of which the cash shop isn't going to include items that, in most games, attract most of the money for the developers. The cash shop will be an "ethical" cash shop, in that there won't be any items in the cash shop that will give one person an edge over someone else. For a development team releasing their first(afaik) major game to the public, allowing people to play their game in a closed an open beta for free, of which they support all with their own money. Not only that, but they provide amazing support, amazing feedback, and are very close knit with their community, more than..any other developer that I've ever experienced can say. But you guys still find things to complain about. Can't we all just be thankful and happy? Last edited by sephrik#5345 on Feb 15, 2012, 6:05:45 AM

" Yeah... and you should be required to ID yourself with eye-scan, DNA, etc. once per minute while playing. Jokes aside, people will find ways to take shortcuts no matter what's allowed or disallowed. With that said I think making it harder to do so (within reason) isn't a bad thing. By the way: I see nothing wrong with pure trading via D2JSP. With pure I mean you use fg that you earned from selling PoE stuff to buy other PoE stuff. Ie. as if PoE was the only source to fg. However, as that's not the case I think PoE would be better off without the D2JSP interaction. It's not very likely that GGG will ban, or try to ban, D2JSP though so in the end it will just be each to their own how they play the game and that's totally fine with me. That doesn't stop me for venting my opinions on the matter though. |

" It can very much be a bad thing depending on your definitions of shortcuts and within reason and to some degree how much harder. For example, some people think finding out where Oak is is an Unacceptable Shortcut. Permanently banning people who reveal the location would be a bad thing. "*rolls eyes* |

If a site like d2JSP didnt exist, there would simply be more people using 3rd party sites that trade items directly for cash.
At least jsp users are(for the large majority) real users, not gold farmers, trading items they found or traded for themselves, actually playing the game to play it, vs for-cash sites only playing for the cash. I've sold on JSP and purchased, in D2, small stuff(like 10-20fg increments.) Its much more convenient than creating D2 games named "Scrip for 3 HRs" or whatever. That being said, I think that GGG's planned ability to be able to trade via forum, and have the items actually exchange, all from the website, will eliminate at least some of the draw of jsp, namely, the convenience. In a barter system, you need a coincidence of wants and timing, the website eliminates the timing aspect, and makes it much easier to match wants. jsp eliminates both by providing an underlying currency with universal value. I doubt I'll use jsp for this game if the website works well, but trying to say you dont want to trade with them at all is kinda silly. You wont stop their influence on the market, and their items are not illicit. |
