Stop using IE to look at Pr0n/WareZ sites
Most attacks now adays are done via flash and the JVM... which are browser agnostic. |

IE by itself is not really the problem (unless an old version). It is an inferior browser, but no longer significantly less secure than any other.
The problem is stupid users. Regardless of security settings, tools, virus scans, etc., user intelligence is still the first and most important security feature. If you don't have it, you will get infected, no matter what browser you use. You might argue that low user intelligence and use of IE are correlated, which may be true, but a somewhat separate issue. And yeah, kids are the worst for esecurity, they will click pretty much anything no matter how many times you tell them it is unsafe. Same as talking to strangers, they just don't get it, no matter what you think you have taught them. not enough time for gaming! Last edited by zinger#5527 on Feb 24, 2013, 4:18:47 PM

OP - one thing to bear in mind: even if many malware attacks weren't browser agnostic these days by exploiting flash/java holes, if everyone listened to you and IE was no longer the bigger market, the malware writers would just switch targets to the new 'big boy' in town.

The system that is used most, independent if it´s the browser or flash/java based is always the system that is most targeted. Mostly it´s that simple. Because of that you doesn´t see many "hacks" on unix based systems. The interest wasn´t there. Times changed though.
The thing about IE is you are forced to use Microsoft based security while on "any" other browser you have the option to use tools to shut down not known code. I´m in a bad situation here to give advice because i´m biased. I prefer FF with script block, ad block and common sense when browsing. Think i´m the 0,01 of the world wide users that uses this. Feeling elitist doesn´t give me just not a good feeling btw. What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything: A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones. Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings. What am i? |
