Timeline until two weeks after 3.0 release

1. The Participants

The Pseudo-Pros

They like to assume the moral high ground and constantly moan how the game is way too easy and how things were much better back then when they were worse. They reminisce about the times of 15-minute map clears, painstaking room-by-room dungeon crawling and "tactical" combat (in a grinding-based ARPG, lul) and their worst nightmare is videos of players crushing endgame content. They think their constant calls for nerfing means they must be very high-skilled and knowledgeable indeed, and are so much better than all these damn unethical build-abusing, streamer-copying sheep.

The Cryhards

They have played the game for years, they have seen first hand GGG gutting popular meta builds into the ground, time and again, buffing other builds and new meta builds emerging from the ashes of the old ones. Somehow, they still manage to be shocked, outraged and flabbergasted when GGG announces they'll be doing the rounds again and certain builds and mechanics are on the chopping block. They huff, they puff, they are never going to touch this shit game and GGG won't see a cent of their hard-earned money if they DARE to touch this build with the nerf stick, and they are all back and waiting for Mathil to come up with new builds to copy for next league.

2. The Timeline

[present day]

Pseudo-Pros: They read the ES and douple dipping manifesto. They take a sip of sherry spiced with Cryhard tears, have a puff of their cigar, adjust their fedora and write a carefully composed reddit post how all these changes are completely justified, reasonable and honestly, a bit late to arrive, but they can see how GGG are swamped with work and they will graciously allow this tardiness to be excused and can't wait to see the previously unseen wonders of balanced gameplay and many new, exciting and ethical builds PoE 3.0 will bring. Balance and harmony between builds, challenging and tactical boss fights, oh my!

Cryhards: OMFG WTF GGG WHY YOU DO DIS, WHY! I'M NEVER GOING TO SUPPORT AGAIN, SHIT GAME, WTF, DEVS DON'T EVEN PLAY THEIR OWN GAME, WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO MY 7 T1 VAAL REGALIA IN STANDARD NOW?! OFF TO PLAY GRIM DAWN, FUCK YOU ALL [beep] [beep] [censored] [fades into distance]

[Fall of Oriath release]

The Pseudo Pros are delighted and tingling with anticipation. They spend a week planning their clever and unique build which utilizes an intricate synergy between three mutually exclusive mechanics and five obscure uniques. They then spend a week leveling the build to early mapping, struggle through mid-tier maps for another week, hit level 83 with a hopefully only double-digit death counter, and decide they've played more than enough for a while and it's time to see what's happening in Reddit and the forum.

Meanwhile, the Cryhards have discovered to their utmost surprise that Grim Dawn remains a boring snoozefest even after the sixth time they've given it a try. They then decide to see what's Mathil doing, and.... *cue divine music* *cloudy sky opens and a Mathil build guide descends from the heavens accompanied by an angelic choir*

Whaaat? Mathil is DESTROYING the new endgame boss, Uber Shadaro, using a life-based build with a few buffed uniques and nodes at a 20-chaos budget!!! Boy oh boy, I can't wait to try this! *installs PoE which was deleted in an unfortunate fit of rage*

[two weeks after Fall of Oriath release]

The Pseudo Pros check out Reddit and, lo and behold, it is a disaster! Calamity has struck again! The goddamned sheep have copied either one of Mathil's ten new boss-destroying builds and are now farming Uber Shadaro! They aren't oneshotting him only if they want to facetank him for fun instead! Woe! Woe!

Meanwhile, Etup has slept three hours and a half in ten days and hit HC lvl 100 with a life-based build utilizing the new buffed ascendancy class and an ungodly amount of grinding! And Steelmage did the same in HC SSF, just a bit slower! ARRRRRRGH!

Enter the posts:
WTF GGG THIS BUILD IS BROKEN! THE DEVS DON'T EVEN PLAY THEIR OWN GAME! NERF THIS!
ETUP GOT HIS HC LVL 100 IN THE TIME IT TOOK ME TO FARM HUMILITIES FOR MY TABULA! WTF GGG NERF THIS BUILD!

Meanwhile, the Cryhards see these dreadful outcries by their arch-nemesis and both groups are soon happily at their throats in the forum.

"Mathil's facetank Shadaro while oneshotting him with a white bow build is perfectly fine, you idiot!"
"They should nerf all player damage by 90%!"
"The new hybrid life mods are broken!"

“The Wheel of Balance turns, and builds come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the build that gave it birth comes again.”

Disclaimer: any similarities to real life events and people, especially Mathil, Etup and Steelmage, are pure coincidence and have nothing to do with them.
You have to be realistic about these things.

I think you should add more categories of people. The demographic represented here is 25% of 100%.And we all know that 17% of that is always 120% right.
Bye bye desync!

I have a much more varied categorization of forum personalities somewhere in an old thread in General Discussion. Didn't want to repeat myself.

edit: ah, here they are:

ROFL

And there's a Torture Chamber, and you get to pick whether to be stuck running the lab for all eternity or to be strapped to a chair with Boem whispering in your ear, "Peace Boem Peace Boem Peace Boem" until you lose your sanity.
You have to be realistic about these things.
