[solved] got vdsl 50mbit - strange kind of "latency freezes"
" So you have a desktop with a Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3 motherboard. These should help you and your performance, but might have little do with your specific issue. Still, can't hurt to try them and get your system up to par at the same time... 1.) Update to the F4 BIOS. Yours is from 2016, not that old, but Gigabyte has two versions since your current one. 2.) Update to the 381.89 NVIDIA drivers. From February, which is fine, but multiple versions released between yours and the latest. Since you're running the latest NVIDIA generation GPU, there are bound to have many fixes in the latest drivers. 3.) Update to 6.0.1.7989 version of Gigabyte-supplied Realtek audio driver. 4.) Update to 21.1 of your Intel network driver. Yours is from 2016. This is an absolute must since you're having connectivity issues. It looks like you have an I219-V Intel network chip. 5.) Download and install the latest Intel chipset drivers from Intel directly, not Gigabyte. Your drivers are all 2016. The easiest way to do this these days, without spending a lot of time searching for it online, is to download via the Intel Driver Update Utility. Usually I hate additional software to grab the latest versions of drivers, but Intel did a good job with this one. It detects perfectly, lets you choose what to download, and lets you save and run those installers yourself, individually. After using this app, you can uninstall it. 6.) You have many crashes recorded with both PoE and your Windows Update. I'd troubleshoot this from a driver/hardware perspective, specifically I'd boot to a Memtest86+ CD or flash drive and run a completely memory test (since you had a PRE_LEAK notice about poor memory management/leak). While you're at it, install and run FurMark and Prime95 (free software) at the same time for a solid hour to test. Run Prime95 with large-FFT test, then run Furmak with native resolution and custom test with max settings. For your Windows Updates, are you sure Windows 10 is getting all important updates? It has crashed a few times. " And... " Packet drops from ISP equipment, access points, or GGG servers could be due to packet prioritization, specifically reducing the priority of ping requests to give more priority to regular data. As long as the dropped packets do not continue all the way to the destination, everything is probably fine. ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

" 1) Updated 2) Updated 3) no need to update cause its the same driver package i've already installed 4) Updated 5) Installed & it finds nothing 6) Yes, "poe.exe stopped working" with this message poe crashed 73 times since legacy league start. I'm using dx11beta + multithreading because dx9ex is dogshit performance. I bought a new computer cause poe performance became shit over the years. Windows 10 only crashes when i try to enable bitlocker. Also i wasn't talking about ISPs i was talking about IPS (intrusion prevention systems) which quite often drop traffic cause they can't handle it. Anyway, my bet is still that it is an provider problem and has nothing to do with my PC. As i already said i have played a lot on my old isp without these problems on this current pc. You know what got installed on monday too before i started playing? Patch 2.6.0k. Also no offence but are you some kind of version junkie? I'm working in IT and i can't stand installing updates everytime something comes out. You know what new versions bring? New bugs. Anyway thanks for the input, much appreciated. PS: I've also switched to an fritzbox (from an OpenBSD router) so i would not rule out that it is indeed the fritzbox. Edit: So it didn't take long and my problem is still here. Did a map, came back to hideout and i had a flat line for 3 seconds on latancy graph. Also why is my ping 15ms higher on map than in hideout? It's all in Frankfurt. Edit2: And it happend again on next map. Last edited by loardpcm#1572 on May 1, 2017, 1:08:52 PM

" Ah, missed the abbreviation switch. When you talked about dropped packets, it's easy to associate that with ISP. Most gamers on the forum here have no clue what that is, and I've always referenced it as IDS (intrusion detection system), since the line between the two is blurred. IPS could be confused with IPs, ISP, etc. " It's possible. You can do other tests on that connection to determine this. " I work in IT too, since 1995. I do a mixture of software development and IT work now. Just last week we had a string of a dozen new Dell laptops which had screen flickering issues when connected over a docking station, then through a media hub, and into a TV (for our conference rooms). We had the latest drivers of everything installed, latest BIOS, latest firmware for docking station expansion controller on laptop, and troubleshot all sorts of video settings, refresh rates, etc. It turned out the culprit was Dell's own version of the Intel graphics driver, where the latest version directly from Intel solved it completely. We had to run DDU to wipe the pre-installed Dell version Intel drivers before installing the ones directly from Intel. So yes, VERSIONS do matter. Software isn't perfect, and the people who develop and push out these drivers are human and make mistakes or overlook things. You wanted to know why I'm a "version junkie", so there you go: it can make or break something. I'm just surprised that a fellow IT person didn't have the latest drivers for his own rig before posting a DXDiag report. I'd personally run the gambit, update everything, and test before even posting a DXDiag report online, lol. " You mentioned you work in IT, yet you assume it's your connection without troubleshooting everything else ahead of posting here? As anyone in IT, you should know NOT to assume anything. That's when we get into trouble with issues we can't resolve, because we're dead set on it being related to something else. I understand not wanting to come home and deal with the stuff we deal with all day at work, but when there's a problem, we have to in order to resolve it. " Well, I truly hope you do find a resolution. Once you reach a certain level of superiority complex on the forums, most people stop helping, lol. I don't really mind, though, because resolution of the issue is more important than having thin skin. :-) " From this point forward I'd stick to the process of elimination when you troubleshoot... 1.) Can you try PoE on another system? A laptop? Borrow someone's laptop or desktop? Anything to test over your Internet connection. With that simple step you can completely rule out your system having an issue. 2.) QoS testing. How much can you do with your ISP? How much can you test in your router? On your end, this article has a lot of good advice and tips of things we might miss (ignore the "beginner's guide" title. Remove as many components of your connection as possible before testing. No Windows firewall, no firewall of any kind, no security/anit-virus software, no malware software including built-into Windows, no router security, just NIC -> modem/router -> your ISP. Remove anything from your configuration that may traffic shape or change packet priority. 3.) Have you tried any other third party tests, such as these, which include the simple speed and bandwidth tests, but more importantly the quality tests? ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

" Yes, you could start a rap battle and leave the audience stunned and like "WTF did he rap about" with all those acronyms out there. :) " I might run some iperf over this connection. " Nice a fellow IT guy! In 95 i was still at school, this could be the first year my father got a PC. I was on Commodore 64 before. I'm more of an linux/unix sysadmin myself. Windows confuses me most of the time. I'm a fan of "never change a running config". Thats why i'm not always on the latest updates. But i see your point. " You are right but as i said it was fine on sunday evening and when it switched to vdsl on Monday it became bad. " I'm trying an VPN next, after that I'll replace the fritzbox. I don't think i can get another computer here where PoE runs. Sadly my old rig died just after buying this one. " Sadly not that easy. " I'll have a look at this. Thanks! Also GGG replied to my E-Mail on saturday, i was looking on the wrong E-Mail account on my side. They suggested that i switch off all Antivirus and Firewall stuff. I just did that but didn't do any testing yet. Last edited by loardpcm#1572 on May 1, 2017, 2:12:10 PM

" Sounds like a plan! " Ah, Linux, yeah, I can now see why you don't want to go updating things, lol! Getting the latest anything from a repository is sometimes asking for trouble if everything is already working. Same with editing files (only wish Windows would drop the damn registry and move to flat file or standard DB format). " That's a shame that you couldn't get another system to test. Well, I suppose you could always take your desktop over to someone else's place and test? Or even your workplace if they don't filter certain UDP traffic. Might be worth the effort? ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

Well i thought i'll update this thread:
tldr; * I'm down to replace my fritzbox with another model, will get one next week to test * it's not an issue of packet loss (i have mtr and wireshark pcap files to prove that (tcp spurious ack is what i see) * i fully rule out my pc because i got some strange behaviour on my laptop when i get ingame freezes (when i type via ssh my input stops appearing on screen and is deplayed for some seconds) I've done until now: * technican checked my connection, i could get 78mbit down/ 24mbit up on this linem no erros on line * i replaced every cable on my side 3 times * i've replaced tae adapter * lot of mtr / packet sniffing I *really* hope its the fritbox. Got damn is it hard to find one with a spare vdsl modem/router. Even the local hackerspace doesn't have stuff like that. :( " Well package managment is sh*t on all systems (Solaris, *BSD, Linux, Windows). I prefer FreeBSD whereever i can use it for some years now. I created my own packages on Linux and BSD. I've done some package deployment stuff with windows also (sccm, ocs inventory, wpkg). I prefer msi files over all other formats. The more software i got in an repo the happier i am. In 2017 RPM based distributions like RedHat or SuSE are still ugly when it comes to repos. No, Debian and Gentoo are not options for me, i dislike Linux for years now. It's always new shit and blinky blinky shiney new things and lacks stability nothing is tested. Drives me mad. So! I can't wait till it's sunday and i get another fritzbox to test.
Look at this beautiful iperf: ![]() It's totally fine unless it drops to 0. And this is where it hangs ingame as well. |

" Glad you got it fixed. Got to ask, was this a manual update you installed yourself or was it part of some windows update that got installed automatically (wouldn't be the first time windows updater fucked shit up) Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

" It was an firmware update for my router (Fritzbox 3370) which is downloaded & installed automatically (well, you can influence these settings via config (auto installation, only show message that updates are available e.g.). This is the german article: https://www.onlinekosten.de/news/fritzbox-3370-und-3390-probleme-nach-update-auf-fritzos-6-53_208687.html. It seems that other router produced by AVM also have this problem. Last edited by loardpcm#1572 on May 14, 2017, 3:46:14 AM
