Using chance orbs to get specific uniques

All over these forums I read people that are "chancing" for a specific unique. I was wondering: is that really worth the try? How big are chances that you actually get that single "wow" item?

I mean, I got on average 40-60 orbs of chance lying around in my stash, and I use them mostly to buy maps from Zana or upgrade a white map to magic/rare. Before going for a specific unique with these orbs I should have at least 200+ of them, right?

Side note on my personal "luck" factor: I have 3 chars (lvl 70, 79 and 83), on SSF legacy league, and found 0 keys, 0 exalted and 0 divine orbs. Yeah baby, beat that for bad luck!

Well i never made a unique that way and i always have a few stacks in my inventory in case something worth chancing drops. so very low chance xd
3.26 when?
Don't abandon us. don't turn your backs on the ones loving poe.
Well it's basically like rolling that item base as dropping again, so you're rolling a many sided dice over and over hoping to get that one lucky roll. Chances are, the items you want to chance are going to be very hard to chance.
The more More you have, the less Less matters
You need probably hundreds. Kept collecting max roll jewelry for chancing and never had any luck.

And then just today, found a white strongbox, thought, let's throw that Chance Orb I happen to have in my inventory on it just to make it non-common and I got the Maraketh unique strongbox.

Didn't even tick the achievement or resulted in anything worthwhile. Sad.

What do you mean with "max roll jewelry" exactly? You mean there are items that have a higher chance of becoming "unique" than other (inferior) items of the same base type?
If they are just rotting in your stash why not use them? Sure the chance of getting a skyforths or headhunter is low but it exists nonetheless.

It's generally always the people that spend negligible amounts of currency complaining they are unlucky.

I'm using chance on boxes got 2 unique barrels (don't remember t name) this league. And do chance leather belts and boots some times depends on how much orbs I have. Did chanced unique belt once my heart stoped once I've heard that sound, but it was crapy belt lol no HH;) GL&HF

When you chance an item, it retains its explicit. So if you happen to turn your +30 Sapphire Ring into a Pyre, you'll have a +30 Cold Resistance Pyre. It does not chance the probability at all.

But blessed orbs can be used on any existing pyre to roll max implicits, right?

60 orbs? 200 of them? LMAO. Dude. You're cute. One guy spent 3k chances and scours (which you'll need unless you want to grab 3k pairs of boots or whatever item you want to chance lol) and totally lucked out to get his Skyforth's when they were first released. Others have spent literally triple that and got nothing. Then you hear about some random guy that threw a single chance orb at the start of the league and boom, Skyforth's. But that's like thinking you can win the lottery because you read some guy won it last week.

First, take the cost of the boots. They are 40ex in SCL. You can get about 360 chance orbs for 1ex. And you can get about 110 scours for 1ex. So if you split the cost of the boots across scours and chances, you could probably swing about 2.1k tries give or take to get them. That's actually not very good all things considered, but if you're feeling lucky or bored or whatever, go for it. Now weigh that against your 60 chance orbs. You don't mention scours so I assume you will just chance whatever item you come across. How many do you find in gaming a session? 10? How many will you find before the league's out?

In all honesty, you are always better off farming, trading, making coin and then just buying whatever you need from another player. You went SSF so that's not really an option, which I'm sorry to be brunt, but a colossal dumb move if you actually want to make any kind of gains in a game with such harsh RNG. I've been playing for ~3 years and I've found 1 Shav's, 1 Mjolnir (turned to trash a few months after I found it), 1 Void Battery and a handful of other T1 uniques. I have yet to see an Astramentis drop, or a Signet, or anyone of the other myriad of T1 uniques that are worth something. 99% of the items I have, yup, trading. I can't see anyone making any kind of progress into high end game in SSF. And that's fine if that's not your thing, but here we are talking about chancing uniques.

I mean, go for it as chance orbs are only really good for trading up to scours anyway, but out of 60 orbs, I mean don't expect anything in return.

I tried chancing a pair of Shav's about 6 months into playing. Picked up every chest. Probably spent a few hundred. You know what I got? Nothing. The odds of getting a 6L (from Chris) are about 1:1,200-1,500 (he's never been very clear on how far off it's from Vorici, he's said pretty close at times and others that it's pretty much the same). How many 6L do you get tossing fuses at gear? Chance orbs have to be WAY higher because GGG isn't going to let you get uniques that easy.

So will it be worth it? Probably not. But if you have nothing else to do with your orbs, go for it. Just really don't expect anything and if you really want to make a run, I'd say save up 1k of each (chances and scours), pour yourself some wine and prepare your mouse ;)
