Can these please get revisited?!
The fact that GMP and LMP give LESS DAMAGE multiplier makes no sense. By SIMPLY not having ANY extra damage is already BAD ENOUGH. Specially because nowdays most skills can't shotgun anymore, my guess is the initial point was to fix people bursting bosses or single targets?! Now everytime i go into a boss or something like that i feel like i have to switch my gems, this is so annoying. Even if i have time to do it freely. What's the consequence? The only builds that effectively use it are exploiting one or another broken mechanic for stupid ammounts of damage (dots/HoWa//// vinktars...) Therefore they don't care about the lack of damage, thats why RoTC was/is so good. Can you please rebalance the whole thing about projectiles?! Pierce included?! And i mean rebalance, NOT NERF. You guys already blew aoe too much... unnecessary nerf. Also pointblank, the range is too damm small for the current meta. tl;dr: Either make shotgunning somehow avaiable to every skill using GMP/LMP or remove all less damage (giving a few "more damage" for LMP i guess). If anything the damage penalty is not high enough since you can still clear faster with projectiles than melee. You definitely also get a clear speed boost from using GMP compared to something like slower projectiles, faster projectiles, pierce, added fire, or anything else that doesn't increase the number of enemies hit by your projectiles. You don't really have a valid point unless the penalty is so harsh that it makes your clear speed worse, which it obviously does not do.

Its just that over time GGG has made many many gems have damage instead of just utility, although lmp\gmp does give ranged abilities more damage, spells not so much anymore. I dont know what the answer is, to me it seems logical to keep the penalty for attacks, but because spells no longer shotgun maybe not so much, but GGG "should have" adjusted the damage of the abilities so its good enough with the penalty. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

Overlapping AoEs like kinetic blast, lightning arrow, and fireball explosions still effectively shotgun.
Support gems need serious revision, they're all just damage multipliers these days. |

The damage penalty is fine as is, I do not think they need to be increased or decreased. Pierce should had never gotten the more damage modifier to begin with since that meant they had to nerf the pierce chance. Pierce was meant to be a utility support. Though, it never made sense why GGG keeps chain and even fork with the damage penalty when they are a utility supports like pierce.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

How can someone run this game nowdays without gmp for any projectile build that doesn't already have it implied? Thats why ROTC was so good, the basic design is FLAWED. Unless you think that killing 1 monster at a time is funnier/balanced/ethical/w/e. Because i know utilities need to be "weaker" BUT THATS THE CASE ONLY IF THEY AREN'T ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. -.- "nerf gmp/pierce", to hell with that idea, blergh, THEN PPL WONT PLAY GMP, SIMPLE AS THAT, ONE LESS BUILD OPTION (and a big one at that). Yes please buff GMP so I can one-shot beyond uniques instead of four-shot them. I don't do enough damage.
- Seriously, there's a reason it's got a damage reduction on it. Overall it increases your damage output, just not your single-target output except in high-density situations with AOE projectiles. If you were complaining about fork and chain, I'd agree with you, but GMP/LMP are already so broken that buffing them more would be hilarious. Also the reason people liked ROTC is because it made barrage do batshit insane damage. Instead of 183%ish damage you'd do 488%ish damage. Not having to socket GMP for pack clearing was icing on the cake. |

GMP/LMP do need to be looked at.
But not because they're weak. On the contrary, they make certain skills too strong, even against single targets. Tornado Shot being the most notable offender, gaining Single Target damage from slotting GMP. Barrage also gets a damage increase for single targets from GMP due to the unique way it interacts (That is, until you get a ridiculous amount of +projectiles before GMP, then it becomes less effective than other support gems) Various spells that have projectiles that explode on contact can also shotgun using GMP, provided you have a way to force the projectiles to detonate on a single target (I.e. A wall or other enemies nearby) This is on top of the utility that is making these skills tremendously good for AoE, even with the reduced damage. |

" The damage and slight pierce chance nerf are not related nor does the pierce chance actually matter. It was just GGG brain farting again. Fork is just shit. Chain can wreck certain content with the general idea of hitting a single target more than once, just like pierce could with Frost Wall). Overall lmp / gmp penalties make no sense and need a rework. Not because they are weak, but because of the other fart GGG is holding back: Trying to "fix" gems with threshold jewels. EK, Frost Bolt, Freezing Pulse, Molten Strike, Magma Orb, etc. |
