Attack speed is not calculated into DPS

Of course it is DPS is Damage PER SECOND so obviously the attacks per second aka attack speed is taken into account.

Sorry, I should've been clearer.

The attack speed modifier is not taken into account when looking at the DPS on the stats of a weapon.

(IE the low and top end DPS of a weapon has not had the attack speed benefit calculated into it)

haha I left more confused than when I started, minus the attack speed explanation, thanks.

That awful game D3... attack speed on weapons was calculated on the damage that is why I ask.

Attack speed on weapons is calculated into the damage, if you equip it and look at the tooltip DPS of your skills after you equip it. If you just look at the damage of the weapon in your inventory, the attack speed does nothing to those numbers.

Yeah, what this guy said.

Can someone explain how attack speed works for special attacks like Leap Slam that have their own base speed?

I don't know the precise formulas involved, but I do know that increasing your attack speed makes the tooltips show better dps and faster attack times for melee attacks. For me, personally, I use frenzy and double strike. Double strike shows a native attack speed of like .52 (estimate from memory, at work now) and as I stack 4 frenzy charges (20% attack speed increase) that number gets better and the dps of double strike goes up. I don't know if it would be as simple as taking the IaS percent (say 20% in my case) and simply adjusting the skill's DPS by that percent as you can use it that percent faster or what.

Damage Per Second. Everything calculates into equating the DPS of a skill. (except those gems that are bugged and Elemental Hit not being able to calculate properly due to its damage changing)

So attack speed, cast speed, Crit Chance, Crit Damage all factor into DPS. But none of those change the actually damage for each hit.

So increasing your Crit Chance will increase your over all DPS but not your overall Damage with each attack. Same goes for the other 3.
