Can a frozen target burn?

My question is literally the thread title. If I have a Fire witch that has an Added cold damage gem on it's spells and I crit on both the fire and cold element, will the target suffer BOTH ailments? As in, it'll be frozen and burning. Realistically it wouldn't work, but I'm just wondering how it really works in-game.
yes

Get that Elemental Proliferation gem and you will have hordes of enemies being frozen/chilled AND burning at the same time. Very effective.

I've built a coldfire bow shadow around this, it's not just very effective, it's SUPER effective.
Sorry to necro the thread but my question is basically in line with it,

Im curious how an attack is put together and how that influences the status ailments

do you crit with the attack in general causing all elements of the attack to happen

or

do you hit with attack (crit or normal) and then have another roll for each fire and cold and electric (if you have them on your attack) added to the attack and only the specific elements that crit end up causing ailment?

or something else?

Thanks :P
Either everything crits or nothing.
So if you deal enough elemental damage of each type to cause status ailments, your target will be shocked, burned and frozen.
you can refer to this thread http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/11707.

because your cold damage is from "add cold damage" gem, the damage may be too low. the "frozen" effect is not applied, If the duration is less that 300ms.

Burning, Chilled, Frozen, and Shocked are collectively known as Status Ailments.
The duration of the chilled, frozen, and shocked statuses is related to the amount of cold/lightning damage dealt:
Shocked: 276ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning
Chilled: 138ms per 1% max life dealt as cold
Frozen: 100ms per 1% max life dealt as cold

All three are capped at considering 1/3 of max life - if you deal more than 1/3 max life as that element, the status ailment occurs as though you did exactly 1/3.

The maximum unmodified durations are therefore:
Shock: 9.2 seconds
Chill: 4.6 seconds
Freeze: 3.33 seconds

If the duration would be less that 300ms, it's ignored entirely (the effect is not applied).
For characters using Chaos Inoculation, these durations are calculated based on what the character's maximum life would be if they did not have Chaos Inoculation.

I'm pretty sure you mean to put an ice spear on that instead of fireball.

Since quoting removes gems,

He had fireball + ele prof + fasting casting + added lightening

That however, will never proc freezing.

I think you mean to put, ice spear + cold to fire + added lightening + ele prof

One day when I get a 6L Voll's I'll use cold snap + cold to fire + ele profileration along with other support gems, and freezeburn everything.

on second thought, a 5L would do just fine I suppose.

Cold Snap has crappy crits. Cold to Fire won't make it Burn so well. DPS is low, too. It's not a main-damage skill, unless you push it hard.

Ice Spear or Discharge are how you do it right.
