auto-scalling is the worst thing ever : no sense of progression at all, no feel or sense of a coherent world around you. you go back and with all your shiny op stuff you feel that crab of act 1 are almost as hard to kill than where you where almost naked on the beach... that's irrevelent and stupid in an ARPG content. You have to destroy lower content with no gain, or struggle with higher content if you want to... I hope we will never see this horrible thing here, ever...

Well imho it depends on how it's implemented:
- if it has some scaling but also a min+max lvl (as Grim Dawn for example) it's ok
-if it scales entirely off your lvl and no cap at all, it's not good and can get ridicolous (iirc Oblivion did it, and in the end you would get attacked by random bandits all dressed in ebony/glass armor lol)

On february 14th a new "mechanic" will be revealed along with the general information on PoE 3.0. It is supposed to be something brand new that adresses a common problem of ARPGs in a unique fashion.

Well, I think the key to the answer is found in the word 'common' and in 'it hasn't been done in the genre yet' (thanks a lot raics - I completely forgot to mention that second part).
A mechanic that will make life great again? No, because it's no commonn arpg problem, it's just a poe related problem.
A mechanic that will get rid of the stupid namelock targeting system? No, because it's no commonn arpg problem, it's just another poe related problem.
For me there are two problems that are common in arpgs.
1) the always growing number of stored items (server lag)
Long time ago an mmo (Ultima Online) had a great event (clean up britania) to get rid of billions of items but since servers are fast these days plus ggg are earning their money mostly by selling stash tabs I think - NO this will not be related to the new mechanic too.
2) the powercreep
Ok, here we go - the one problem of every single arpg out there - the bane of long term playing any online game - THE POWERCREEP! Most companies "solve" this problem by raising the max level so no matter how good your items were before they are trash after the new patch. I think the new mechanic will be something to deal with the powercreep without destroying the value of every single item that is pre 3.0. My guess is that it will be based on another form of ascension because they really like things that evolve (upgradable items, ascendancy classes....). Maybe you can only start the new act without having any equip - maybe a dream realm or something or a paralel world with different itemisation. That way you would have a fresh start for the new act but your pre 3.0 items would remain powerful in the old acts.

And finally, we will get a chance to become EVIL, through a non-linear game-play.

That's why I went with the direct stash access, PoE (and other titles in the genre) have a problem with players ignoring most of the loot because it isn't time-efficient to haul it back, identify and sell it. This way, you'd just stuff a few tabs with it and do it at your own leisure when chatting with guildies or snacking. And I don't think it has been done in the genre yet, personal inventory has been there since forever.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

But again, how is it releated to Cruel difficulty??
Bye bye desync!
In 3.0 you will be able to connect some or any two nodes = more skill tree customization as it was added with jewels. Something like an jewel of fusing or a pair of jewels, being able to connect 2 skill tree nodes with jewel sockets - that's my guess :-)

It isn't, we already know what will happen to it, I think Chris was talking about something else.

Maybe it'll be something along the lines of dynamic level scaling of enemies? It could ensure that the mobs are always in level range and wouldnt make eariler areas worthless to run?

Edit: Didnt read reddit thread before posting, didnt see it was already there xD

the question is:Will that "game-changing" mechanic that was mentioned on the podcast will be announced on the 14th with 3.0?

chris respond is:
Yes, and to be specific, it relates to the Cruel stuff.

He is specific about it.If it relates to cruel then you cant make assumptions and assertions of inventory space...

I think there will be 2 different things because most likely cruel will be removed (become another difficulty)
