Weapon personalization: I think that the new mechanic will link melee characters to their weapons. By using a weapon over time, that character will both improve/level the weapon and their skill with it. Both sets of improvements will linked. The skills and abilities enhanced through extended use use will add to those provided by skill gems.
Weapons will revert to their base level when given to another character or sold. When characters pick up a new weapon, they begin that leveling process once again. Make melee great again! I'm not entirely sure if it's already been mentioned, but I'm pretty sure the new 3.0 mechanic is something dealing with level progression.
In every ARPG I've ever played the grind to endgame has always been a problem. How does one scale story content and leveling in such a way that players don't want to end their own lives? Diablo 1/2 and PoE tried to solve this problem through the repetition of content via difficulty tiers and appropriate level scaling, but for players who go through the content several times a season/league, this "solution" causes inordinate amounts of boredom and agony. I often start a league with tons of ideas and theories but almost never accomplish all of them due to not wanting to slug through content ANOTHER time to test an idea that might fail spectacularly. We were previously told that GGGG was planning on changing our current difficulty/tier system, and I honestly think that the team took the idea even further and is looking to really revolutionize how ARPGs progress prior to endgame content. My guess revolves around the introduction of not only a new Act, but a possible revamp of all the old acts to make zones longer and more substantial towards EXP, so that with the eventual addition of new acts we'll only have to do one playthrough of all the acts to reach a bit further into endgame, with a boost to the monster level of all of our current maps. To combat the level boost, GGG would probably lower EXP values gained at higher levels. I'm probably dead wrong, but you can be DAMN sure that whatever happens, we're gonna bitch at on Reddit with intense ferocity up until we grow used to it and forget the game was ever played in a different way. gimme money bitch

Guess number two:

I think it will be a combo action system. For example if you press your action 1 button in certain ways you will perform combos like in action games. This system may be related to skills themselves or with jewels or new gems in some unique way. I envision it to be like when you have heavy strike as a skill and you press the button 3 times in a fast way you will perform a a 3 hit combo with some exrta damage or aoe. or if you do a fast/fast/hold button combo you will do a 2 hit combo with a defensive counterattack.
