Path of MedianXL

Finally, a viable vaal fireball build.
IGN: Arlianth
Check out my LA build: 1782214
The best MedianXL patch was when the Druid still had its entire Charm tree.

Those were the days. RIP Charmer.

Can I ask what exactly has changed that has made the game less catered to the hard core? Im asking because I want to know. Not to criticize.

I have played off and on (hardcore only) for quite a bit and always feel it as challenging. I am always excited for the potential of a 'life' changing drop. Excited to level character to play maps and even though this sounds taboo, I like leveling for the most part.

If possible, avoid the usual XBOX + SSF = EZ mode response.

Look at the map tier people roll atm

2 years ago people were rolling tiers much like this

now everybody is facerolling redtiers

level 90 is a joke to achieve

mobs are just 1 shotable dummies

etc

i think you are using the word 'everybody' incorrectly

only a small % of players ever get to red maps, and there are more map tiers (tier 16 and SHaper) that only a tiny fraction of players get to

Getting to 100 is still not easy regardless of how easy you may think it is to get to 90

but in this alternative fact era I guess making stuff up is the new normal

The game hasn't gotten easier, is it hard to believe, that we as gamers, are getting better? People have such pessimism about themselves, they take it out on the game. Now, have optimism with how amazing we all are. Now, Everyone, the roof is on fire, it's getting hot in here, so take your
outside and give him some water.

You do realize that back then, most people didnt run endgame maps not because they couldnt, but because they didnt drop.

The game wasnt hard back then either, but progression was even more RNG gated than it is now, to the point where you'd spend multiple exalts on a top tier map. Thank god thats over with.

Sad, but true. The Atlas was an incredible expansion. People wouldn't ever run reds because they were extremely rare.

"We" have been getting better, yes. However, gamers as a whole haven't, and an average PoE newcomer hasn't, but he will still reach much further on his first few builds despite the game being more complex than it once was.

Median is a great example of a mod that spun out of control, and I agree the process is somewhat similar to what was happening here, made the comparison myself a few times. There are roughly two types of mods, ones that add challenge and immersion and those that add more explosions, each draws a different crowd, as Shags noted.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I do agree. But we also have to take into account that there are a lot more sources of information today, then back in the beta days. Streamers, wiki, forum, reddit, guilds and so on. EVERYTHING is known by A LOT of players.

But yeah, monster HP vs Player damage used to be OK scaled back in the days, and the lowest tier of maps didn't feel the same as the 10th tier of maps. Yes, I'm exaggerating, but not by a lot.

Might be, it's possible there's more knowledge floating around but I've seen players lately that don't know slots have to be linked for supports to work and that trading exists at all asking for help for the first time as late as merci dried lake.

I remember that i started out and asked for help the first time i was in vaal temple on merciless (back in OB). Getting there was pretty straightforward and not too much of a hassle. Sure, dried lake would be quite a bit farther ahead in comparison, but i think its kind of obvious there has been quite a bit of powercreep since then. I find the difference marginal.

The question here is, do we really want to ramp up the difficulty on leveling, of all things?

I personally really like the idea of several easily grindable areas (because thats what you do in an ARPG anyways) and big fat bosses to test your mettle (because you want to see the results of all that grinding).

Ramping up the difficulty in say, mid tier maps will only result in people spamming low tier maps instead. Because, lets not pretend that people will always run the most challanging content they can find the majority of the time. Quite the opposite i fear.
