What skills can you use when you're out of mana?

Anyways, the main point is that to me the default attack is boring and a skill would simply be more fun to use. Even if it's not as strong as a mana-based attack.
Can't we just call the default attack a skill and get the exact same affect? Buy a flashy weapon effect from the cash shop and it can even look like a skill.

The default weapon attack is also very weak and thus is another reason why it sucks to use.
Happy Days Abound.
For the sake of balance, any free-to-use skills would also have to be very weak. Else, there would be no reason to have a default attack at all, which would make players wonder why the hell their marauders can't whack things with their maces.

The default attack is the baseline for all weapon skill damage. Making it more powerful makes other skills more powerful. If there's an issue of balance, the solution isn't removing all purpose of ever using the default attack and adding other things to replace it.

At some point in your character's progression you should strive towards replacing the default attack with your favorite single target dps skill. This could mean you just found some really amazing flasks, or you support with mana leech. Also, maybe you just took blood magic and swapped to sapping flasks and life gain on hit gear. Balancing skill cost with skill usage is just part of outgrowing your default attack and building an efficient character. If you fail to do this, it will become very apparent during the later difficulties as monster HP increases and resists become more common.
If there are skills that cost no mana to be used in place of the current default attack, they then become the new default attack.

I have an idea, rename the default attack to "Weapon Smash" or "Power Bash" and people will think it's a skill that costs no mana.
