Considering the fact that there mostlikely isn't a need for negative stash numbers, then the logic assumption could be that it is an unsigned 16-bit limit and hence have the range of 0-65,535 - depending on the language PoE is implemented with naturally. :)
Excellent point!
Double the number of tabs!

Microtransaction items or points will never be tradable, if it was it would essentially turn into Pay to Win and that isn't an option for Path of Exile. They are against Pay to Win explicitly.

The most important issue is the one I've been leaving for last. Microtransactions will not be tradeable in any form. If they were tradeable then players would be able gain economic advantage by purchasing cosmetic effects, applying them to items, then trading those items to players who compensate them with in-game value. We cannot allow this trading to occur. Because of this decision, items with microtransaction effects applied to them cannot be traded or dropped. If you want to trade such an item, you have to remove the effect first as described in the patch notes above.
65535 sounds right.

Thanks for the correction on the microtransactions! I am glad to hear that as I figured that would end up being a way to pay to win.

No, there is no practical limit. Somewhere around 65000 if you wanted to buy them all but if you did Chris said he would raise the number of stash tabs to accomodate you :)
Thank you!
16-bit limit, so 32768 tabs. Perhaps 32767
$250 for 2850 credits
200 credits for the 6 pack of premium tabs
4 default tabs
32763 to purchase to max out so 5461 6-packs
1,092,200 credits needed
383.23 $250 purchases
$95,807.01 spent and I can get Chris to change the variable type on stash tab counter and recompile! :)
Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket. ;)
That's 16-bit signed. Pretty sure anyone with common sense would realize that you won't have a negative number of tabs. So, assuming it is 16-bit unsigned, that's 0-65535 tabs.
EDIT: My bad, I guess that's what I get for replying before finishing to read the thread. Sorry.

This. I believe when I actually looked into this it was an unsigned short integer in C++.

Cool beans, 64k tabs is way more than I'd ever use.
This reminds me of the lightbulb that went off in my head when I realized why I could only have 255 rupies in Zelda. I always thought that was a stupid number to use as a cutoff back in the day.
