This is the end my dear friend
The entire feedback section on the forum is first world problem stuff so thats not a good reason to bash me. Also I do not quit POE because of the card. The card is part of a much larger reason why I don't enjoy the game anymore. I think the topic start is pretty clear on that.

" " But... Why? Is it really because the art on the card vaguely looks like what Jesus looks like in a lot of art? Or is it because it's an item you'll probably never see in-game and is kinda redundant? I can understand the second part because the card seems like a waste of time to create and implement (even though it was paid for by a supporter, it seems silly), but if you're upset because it sorta looks like Jesus, I can't understand that. |

I don't think it's the picture on the card that could be offensive, but the whole idea that this "saint" is actually profiting greatly for his act.
We can only guess whether the problem is the obvious similarlity to church in various historic eras including our very own or if it could truly be picturing Jesus in that way. Personaly I believe that people getting offended by fantasy video games are missing something very important.
Spoiler
To stick to this case, we have a person who has trouble with dead bodies resembling work and concentration camps in and after WW2. It's just the picturing of such tragedy itself that is a problem for them. Of course it is very shallow and childish way to see the world of a fantasy video game, but it may somehow make them feel better about themself if they nurture this reaction. Yes, our character is eventually going to execute the one responsible for all these bodies but that doesn't fit in the picture of sjw so it's forgotten. Or maybe this villain's "resurrection" is considered. (And their immediate demise left out again). But even if that wasn't the case, aren't we all aware this is a game, not a guide to life?
As a problem can be seen an imaginary "saint" gaining wealth. It is either too "spot on" or considered to be an insult to some religion, even though this whole story about a bad guy is just on a card in a video game. Demons are a problem, because you do not only kill them, but you can also dress up as them. The list would go on, I remember a person having problem with a swastika-shaped crossroad in the Chambers of Sin. Where is our society going, if anything ever connected to some vile deed is forever considered somehow impure or unclean? But in this case, it's very simple. A brain washed (yes, harsh term, but what else is it if you believe in fairy tales?) person considers religion somehow more important than reason. Myths and old stories which are part of religions that are being recycled in this fantasy world are held so high, it's preventing someone from having fun in this video game. ✠ ✠

OP -
While I respect your right to not care for the imagery and what not that is in this game, what I don't understand is where you see anything having changed for the worse? Act 1 sees us fighting cannibals. Brutus is a jailer that reveled in torturing his wards, who was turned into a monster by Shavronne, through the use of thaumaturgy (which is magic) who beat his fists into a bloody mush. Act 2 saw us dealing with the bandits (one of which, Alira, raises the dead), and venturing into an ancient pyramid built by a society whose queen sacrificed hundreds of her citizens to bathe in their blood in an attempt to gain immortality. As for any distaste for the Div card, while is draws obvious visual parallels to Jesus (or ProjectPT?), unless you think Jesus, or Christianity exists in the fictional universe of PoE, then it cannot be a commentary on Christ, or real-world religion. It is a criticism of the fictional church of Oriath. U MAD?

did it ever occur to you that mjolner looks like a cross you have to use to fight demons? omg!
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" I mean, or that it is a direct reference to the weapon used by a Pagan God. Christian missionaries exploited the similarity in shape between Mjolnir and the Cross, in order to convince Scandinavian Pagans to convert in fact. U MAD?

" yep, imagining that guy on the div card to be false prophet the catholic church crucified on one of their "holy crusades" is a good solution for the problem. i'm with george carlin on this one: "atheism is a non-prophet organisation". age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

I really, really dont want to have a problem with religious people because religion and wanting to believe in something isnt wrong my any means, but when you do stuff like this it just makes me facepalm and lose all respect for you.
This is like the same thing as that lady and all the people who go to visit her and her grilled cheese sammich. |

OP i fully agree with what you posted. I am feeling the exact same thing.
What drove me to play this game was to self discover that super OP build that nobody has. But it was always a carrot on a stick like you said. Every time i found something that actually had synergy it got nerfed (for example like Kinetic Blast with Frost Wall). Most of the players can't even relate because they do cookie cutter builds and haven't reached that level of frustration yet by trying hundreds of skill combinations just to see that nothing works. So many skills that had great synergy between each other had been nerfed that there are less and less viable builds. I'm not saying that you can't do a boring cookie cutter build that does a lot of damage but you can't pick a skill that you choose and make that one OP. Because GGG nerfed everything. 90% of the skills in this game are unused skill gems and the other 10% that people found viable are being copy pasted and soon to be nerfed. I tried really hard to make the skills i actually like viable but it's like GGG just doesn't want me to use those skills. |
