Mantra of flames with perseverance?
I'm playing Champion, and I always have fortify. Does the onslaught while fortified on Perseverance give me added damage from mantra of flames? I gained a lot of damage for equipping it, but it has attack damage scaling and onslaught, so its hard to tell where the damage is coming from.
It doesn't appear on the bar, but I am definitely getting it. Either way it's a damage upgrade I guess. Last bumped on Dec 15, 2016, 2:32:02 PM

i'm fairly sure the answer is "No," there's a dev post floating around saying Onslaught is a property, not a buff, and I noticed while wearing Perseverance that you don't get a buff icon for that source of Onslaught, so what you're seeing is likely just from the attack damage/speed bonuses

I was hoping that wasn't the case, I know the flask effect doesn't, I can probably figure out a way to mess about with onslaught flasks and dropping other buffs to check it.

It should. Onslaught is clearly a buff, AFAIK. I've heard GGG say that it's boolean, so you can't increase the effect via any source, but I've never heard of them saying it was not a buff.
That said, Onslaught is an odd buff by POE Standards, and POE has had numerous issues lately with buffs that are not acting properly for triggering conditions, and odd wording that is unclear until GGG explains it. This might just be a bug. The wiki does specify, FTR, that "The Onslaught gained from Silver Flask is not considered a buff", which would sort of make an odd sense as it is then kind of a flask effect. It doesn't explain why it isn't working from Perserverance though. If you can, I would try grabbing Graceful Assault, and removing your Perserverance, and see if getting Onslaught THAT way triggers the Mantra of Flames. If you were Raider you could try that as well, but.... Also, it sounds as if you aren't certain if you ARE getting the Mantra Damage from Onslaught. Might be a good idea to whip out your calculator and be certain that the Onslaught from Perserverance isn't working. Or, just shove a similar post in Bug Reports and GGG will either say, no, it's fine, it's just complicated looking, or it's a bug, thank you. - Sheepster |

" Forum - Bug Reports - Scion Ascendant: Raider Passive " The sad part is that before I wrote my first post, I tried looking for it using forum search FOREVER and couldn't find it. Google found it within seconds Need game info? Check out the Wiki at: https://www.poewiki.net/

So are other flask effects also not buffs for Mantra? I was considering getting a Mantra because I naturally have about 5 buffs on me, and my flasks give me a ton more (about 2 buffs per flask).

OK here is the test I ran.
I know arctic armour grants only the fire damage, so if I toggle it I can see how much fire damage that equates to by the end. I equip and unequip the belt, and if the damage is significantly more we can assume the onslaught is giving us flat damage, since flat is better for overall damage than a tiny bit more scaling. Doing this shows arctic armour (with the belt off) changes my damage from "450 - 1381" to "498 - 1542". So were gaining 50 ish on low end from a buff alone. The belt changes the numbers from the "450 - 1381" to "488 - 1498". So were gaining less for the belt than we would from another buff, meaning onslaught is not applied as a buff, however we do gain overall DPS from the attack speed and % attack damage. Onslaught on Perseverance is not a buff. Case closed I guess. |

" Yeah, Forum Search kinda stinks. As for what he's saying...Does that mean Onslaught itself is never a buff, or that Onslaught from Ascendancy is not a buff? I can't tell. Making Ascendancy things not count as a buff makes sense, in light of Mantra of Flames specifically. Necromancer alone would start triggering it twice for every aura once they grabbed Commander of Darkness, unless the per-aura buffs are done singly, not separately. Making Onslaught itself not a buff doesn't make a lot of sense, as it pretty clearly fits the standard usage of the term. It makes sense for Onslaught as a Flask Effect to be a Flask Effect over a Buff, and not be both. It doesn't make sense for Onslaught itself to never be a buff at all. - Sheepster |

Mark is always quite specific in his posts, just like PoE is in its descriptions. As such, he's only speaking for the "Onslaught at Full Frenzy Charges" passive that the Scion can get. Source, btw.
The Onslaught on Kill effect (ex. Rapid/Graceful Assault passives, various items) grants a Buff that gives you the Onslaught property, for example. That Buff will work with Mantra of Flames. |
