General thoughts on Bandit rewards?

Adghar you make some really good points, but I also would take into consideration that while the flat life may not amount to much when you are at 5-6K total, when you are at 1K total in late Normal difficulty, it really does make a difference.

The difference between 65% Resist and 75% Resist is really big (28%!), especially in Breaches where almost everything deals Elemental damage of some kind. Getting another ~5% total Life is nowhere near as relevant.

Oak Life is a fine choice, I still make a bunch of characters that pick it up.. But the first couple characters I roll, and every ES-based character? 10% Allres. The reduced gear pressure is so convenient. Sure, you can cap Resists with just more gear or better Jewels, but that comes with a cost and I'm cheap as hell.

As for the question posed in the opening post: 5% Cast Speed is solid. Cast speed clusters do have 6% Cast Speed passives, but the average per-point value is 4%, assuming zero travel nodes. I personally would say you can't have enough Cast Speed, especially if your Skill can Echo (More Cast Speed, the synergy!).
I'm glad I read this thread. I've been stuck in a rut on the Normal Bandit quest for quite some time now, just grabbing Oak/Point based on whether I was going redbar or experimental bluebar...but Adghar and Beaver make some solid points. Kinda wish I'd gone resistances now myself, given how often a Breach has kicked my ass since I started the league. Now that I've been kicked out of that, can make some more informed decisions in the future, especially for characters with a ton of pressure on their suffix slots like crit guys or anything with a lot of attribute requirements - or both. Hell, Poisynne may not have stunk so much if I'd snagged resistances instead of life.

Awesome. Thanks, folks.

Wish they can rework normal kraityn to have it be +1 maximum elemental resistance, but then it would be a no brainer pick. It is great for early game, but once your fully decked out in great gears that will push your elemental resistances way beyond cap, than normal kraityn will be a waste. Refunding is not cheap. GGG is pretty much treating those rewards like they are worth 20 passive points. I can understand merciless bandit rewards, but normal and cruel rewards do not warrant such heavy respec. Not even ascendancy classes warrant that much respec (unless you want to change asc class after already going so deep in one) and has more impact to your character's build development.

While normal oak may be an amateur trap, you either got that, or passive point. You better hope that passive point makes a huge difference as life build (as in happens to make you land in a notable) otherwise you might be screwed. 40 flat life is not something to be underestimated.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

That sweet 120 total Life. Mmm. That'll be the difference between life and death so often.

To be fair, people can make an equally big deal out of the difference between a ring with a 50-point life roll or a ring with a 90-point life roll. With the 'big deal' being a rather hefty chunk of chaos, other mods depending.

40 flat life is 40 flat life. Like John said, Kraityn's early resistance bonus is awesome but can be rendered obsolete if the character ends up in good enough gear, but you can't overcap life.

'Course, for cheapasses like me who never get into fifty-exalt endgame gear set-ups with 40+ tri-res on every piece, getting knocked out of that Oak-or-point rut is still pretty useful. Now if only the respec options for bandit rewards weren't so godawful expensive...

I have once taken alira's 60 mana ;D
The logic behind that was that the build had over 50% mind over matter and mana at that point had to be the majority of total hp pool, but in the end i have abandoned that build (a failed experiment).
Another use on mana and probably the only other is the use on guardian...
