[3.4] Arly's Ice shot Raider

Introduction: The goal of this build is to clear maps as fast as possible and be able to do guardian and Shaper level content with enough gear investment. This is not a beginner friendly build and not recommended if you have never played PoE before or never taken a character to at least level 90.

Pros:
- Strong as a league starter and extremely cost effective
- One of the fastest clear speeds in the game with around 1:30 minute guardians and 4 minute shapers with enough gear investment
- You look like an ethereal lightning god

Cons:
- Evasion and acrobatics are rng based not as reliable as hard mitigation
- Slower power ramp up compared to melee oriented starters like sunder
- Requires good flask managment and good reflexes to play effectively

How to build gear + leveling guide

Itemization:
0. You should aim to get as much life as possible on every rare gear slot. Never try to self craft gear unless it's your enchanted helm or a 6 link armor in which case you should use the alt regal approach. It is generally fairly easy to get 80 life and a combined 60 resists using this method.

1. Start off with a tabula rasa and either go to a shroud or belly as the last major item or use a rare 6 link armor instead. Belly is very expensive and is a 320 life gain and 8.5 dps loss over shroud. Shroud tends to be much cheaper and provides a strong dps boost and is my personal recommendation.

2. Chin sol is the most cost effective bow for this build. It can be used as an offhand single target swap if you want to use death's opus for better clear speed or Windripper for IIQ as main bow if desired.

3. You will need 71/75 intelligence to upkeep level 20/21 wrath. I Usually put int on a rare helm and rare boots but your amulet is also another good place. You will want the majority of your 2x2 slot items to be intelligence or intelligence/dex aligned as many gems used in this build are blue.

4. You must a belt with the following mod: reduced flask charges used (16-20%) and ideally also increased flask duration (10-20%). Flasks are extremely vital for this build. A belt with these affixes make a huge difference in game play. Having such a belt will let you use your Quicksiler flask three consecutively times instead of two. Ideally you would want to use a stygian belt end game.

5. You will need at around 600 accuracy from gear so 2 pieces or more must have it. Aim for at least 91% hit rate with ice golem and 90% hit rate (2760 total accuracy) without. More is better but the dps gains past 91% are marginal. Ideally location to put it is on quiver and and one of your two rings.
6. Gloves should have increased attack speed (12-18%) as very few gear pieces can get this affix. Once your gear is optimized you can go for Tombfist as your glove slot if you want to trade resists for much more dps.

7. Amulet should critical strike multiplier ideally and as many dps affixes as you can fit in it. With elder influence this slot can get increased maximum life leech which is incredibly powerful and will be equal to 3 points on the passive tree to get vitality void. This is a great place to put accuracy and intelligence as well as a slot you should aim to get as much life/str on.

8. Quiver should have critical strike multiplier ideally and as many dps affixes as you can fit in it. Spike point gives the most barrage dps but penetrating will improve clear speed. Ideally you should put accuracy here and no resists if possible. End game you will want a quiver with additional arrows.

9. Rings will fill the rest of your missing stats like resists or accuracy. These can get a lot of dps affixes such as WED, flat ele, crit, IAS. This along with your amulet and quiver will be your biggest source of gear dps.

10. Dying sun will be your most important flask and while expensive will improve but ST and clear speed. You can use Atziri's promise prior.

10. You can use dps boosting uniques like rat's nest and yriel's if you so desire but it will mean lower life pool totals and will be more costly to be build due to having to make up life/resists/other elsewhere.

Gear progression will look like this:
0. Level 1: if you have twink gear, goldrim and wanderlust will help early on.
1. Level 10: buy a storm cloud.
2. Level 25: buy a prismweave, this will give you a tremendous amount of damage and carry you up to maps. You can optionally buy a wake of destruction (28) but it's not mandatory.
3. Level 35+: spend 1-2 chaos on a rare elemental bow with high attack speed if you feel your damage with storm cloud is lacking.
4. Level 35+: Buy a 5 link armor for 1 or 2 chaos.
5. Level 66+: spend some chaos orbs once you first start maps on basic rare gear to cap resists and raise your life pool. Through out the level 68-90 process you should make incremental upgrade to gear slots not listed here as well.
6. level 66+: Buy a corrupted 6 link armor with GGGRB or a tabula rasa
7. level 62+: Buy a 5 linked chin sol (30-40 chaos) as soon as you have enough money - Using jeweler's touch on a non linked may be cheaper.
8. dying sun (260-360 chaos)
9. 2 abyssal socket tombfist(60-80 chaos)
10. +1 arrow quiver (100-200 chaos)
11. +1 barrage helm (60-80 chaos)
12. 6 linked chin sol (6-8 exalts)
13. Optional: 6 link belly of the beast (very expensive and only helps with LA clear speed) or 5 link shroud of the lightless which is cheaper and has more dps but less life. Alternatively a rare 6 link armor is very comporable to a belly of the beast and generally 5% of the price if you did not do this already.

Enchants:
Boots: 16% increased attack and cast speed if killed recently for general clear
1-160 lightning damage if not killed recently for boss killing (ideal enchant)
10% elemental penetration if not killed recently for boss killing
Your choice of boot enchant/armor may change your barrage gem setup
Gloves: fury enchant or war enchant or gripped gloves
Helm: Ideally +1 barrage projectiles (17% dps gain with no dying sun) or Barrage 40% damage (8% dps gain)

Gear Affixes:
Flat physical damage is absolutely useless for this build.
WED/Flat elemental damage is extremely important for this build and provides a massive dps boost.
You will want some cold damage on your gear to help proc herald of ice which is crucial for clear speed.

Jewels:
Jewels should have 5-7% life and either resistances or dps affixes alternatively you can opt for abyssal jewels or a mix of the both. I generally use primarily abyssal jewels. I generally go with life and resists on jewels to make it easier to balance resists on gear. Alternatively you can use jewels to boost dps by getting affixes like attack speed with bows and cold/lightning damage/project which tends to be far less expensive than life based jewels. You must have one jewel with blind on hit. Some examples of jewels to look for:

Flasks:
You will need one staunching and ideally one with warding on your silver/diamond flask. Having the chemist prefix for these two flasks is a huge QoL improvement when combined with a reduced flask charges belt. Your quicksilver flask should be an alchemist of adrenaline. Well rolled flasks and a reduced flask charges (16%) used belt are vital are to this build. You can repalce the life flask with taste of hate later on.

Leveling guide:
Level 1: Use split arrow and burning arrow - Switch to lightning arrow and blast rain when they become available. I tend to keep using blast rain until I have dying sun. Storm cloud is the primary unique used for leveling and can carry as high as level 80 if needed.
"

Level 48: Prismweave and wake of destruction is extremely helpful for the build as are elreon rings. By this point you can either get a tempest if its feasible however most random elemental damage thicket or grove bows will generally be cheap and about as strong.
"

Level 57: Switch blast rain into 6 link with mirage archer
"

Level 62: Switch into chin sol. You will want to use blast rain until you pick up dying sun.
"

Bow dps comparison

Total barrage DPS wise this is the breakdown with a nearly perfect and optimal setup:
Perfect Chin sol: 1.53 million dps (only at close range)
Perfect legacy death's opus: 1.25 million dps
Perfect legacy reach of the council: 1.17 million dps
Perfect death's opus: 1.13 million dps
perfect legacy Windripper: 1.13 million dps
perfect Doomfletch's prism: 1.07 million dps
Perfect The tempest: 1.02 million dps
Perfect storm cloud: .979 million dps
perfect voltaxic: .879 million dps

In summary: Chin sol is going to the overall best bow for this build. Death's opus is going to be the best bow general clear almost beating out even a perfect double legacy reach of the council but Chin sol will however do 34% more damage. Both bows will work well for this build. Even modest options like the tempest will still be fairly competitive.

Inventory management

I would recommend even people with 100 stash tabs to play like they only had 10-12. The vast majority of players tend to store more than they really need and it negatively impacts gains/hour in the long run if you're spending time micro managing or repricing low value items. Price items to sell and sell them quickly. Good inventory management means more time spent playing which translates to more exp and loot over time. Below is how I organized my stash tab.

1. maps (quad tab)
2. currency tab
3. sales - ALL of my sales go here - maps, rares, etc
4. div cards
5. quality gems
6. essences

7. imbued wands ilvl 84
8. armour helms ilvl 84
9. t6-t9 maps to be sold as chisels
10. t10-t11 maps to be sold as chisels

In time I will delete 7 through 10 as they become obsolete.

Is this good as a starter build ?
I am looking at this one and the Explosive Arrow build.
Your build seems to play faster and looks more fun.
Is it just a fast farmer or good at all endgame content like Shaper/Ubers etc ?
Sorry for the noobish questions.

This is a good starter but not as easy as flurry or totems.

You can get it to do shaper and ubers but its much better as a hyper map clearer. If you want to do shaper grinds try poison builds before their nerfed.

Yes, and the leech cluster near duelist.

Do you know if that cluster work if you convert 100% of phys dmg to ele? - With LA + signal shot quiver ect?

That cluster leeches on all attack damage even if it is pure elemental. So yes.

Thought of using lightning pen gem instead of probably inc crit? Might be better dmg, no?
